Kelly Price is too recent-her career is far from over.

I would like to see eps on Slave, The Marvelettes, Syreeta, Ohio Players, Angela Bofill, Five Star and Ready for the World

I'd like to see an episode about Billy Stewart. He made some great songs and doesn't get mentioned very often. It'd be cool to learn more about his life and career. Some others I saw mentioned that I'd like are The Sylvers, Ready For The World, Shuggie Otis, and Slave.

Billy Stewart would be an excellent choice.

Hint: Are you familiar with the group GQ?

If you are Billy Stewart is the original artist of two of their

most popular songs. wink

He was a singer who was quite popular in the 1960's. As phunkdaddy already mentioned, the group GQ remade two of Billy's songs ("I Do Love You" and "Sitting in the Park") Billy had a lot of other great songs as well. I don't really know much else about him though. That's why I'd love to see an Unsung about him. Here are some songs from him that I really like.

Even if they aren't really unsung I'm interested in seeing their stories anyway. I hope some young folks are watching too cause some of these folks are certainly UNSUNG to them.

I think the concept isn't so much the unsung part, but the why did they walk away right before hitting the big time.

I'm not sure the OJays qualify, but I guess they're gonna talk about Teddy's accident.

Totally interested in seeing the Mikki Howard one. She has an amazing voice. I actually went to a Rahsaan Patterson show a few years ago and she was in the audience, he invited her up to sing.. a little thicker now (aren't we all) but she could still blow.

I've enjoyed the "Unsung" series, but I hardly think Teddy, George or the OJays belong in that category. Some of the others truly are/were good at what they do and didn't get the recognition they deserved.

thank you, i don't either.

As far as the "Unsung" their shelf life for me has expired, some of the shows have been good but most so-so.

Yep nod GQ,the funk/disco band, scored huge hits with remakes of two Billy Stewart songs: "I Do Love You" and "Sitting In The Park".

Shucks, I'm still waiting on an episode featuring Kid n' Play.

I don't see how George Clinton is unsung but I can see a little of why the O'Jays are probably considered as such. They were R&B legends yes, but did they hit the mainstream? Isn't that what the show is about, the artists who deserved widespread international fame but didn't? confuse I'm starting to get confused on what this show is really about. I always thought it was about the artists who had a few hits but then you didn't hear from them anymore. I think I would have expected them to do an episode on the Gap Band before the O'Jays though IMO.

They did with Love Train but nevertheless i think some of the personal setbacks like

losing member William Powell to cancer at the height of their success in the 70's

and Walt Williams longlife battle with MS which he just disclosed this year and the

death of Eddie's two sons add intrigue to their story.

Oh yeah, there is alot of drama in the Ojays story. They went through some hard times in the early 80s.Their albums from that period consisted largely of "leftover songs from the vaults".Things were in totally disarray at Philadelphia International Records.Several years ago, they sued Gamble and Huff, claiming they were cheated out of royalties.Ironically,ex-member Sammy Strain filed a lawsuit of his own in 2007,suing the other two members! Basically claiming that he wasn't properly paid either.

And the Mary Jane Girls

That's another excellent choice. They went through alot of drama and they're still going through drama today. At the height of their success, they were caught in the middle of Rick James' feud with Motown and never got to release their third album 'Conversation'.These days, lead singer JoJo tours with two new girls, while the remaining three original members tour with Val Young as lead singer. It's a mess.

Sos, thanks for the pic of Mona Harrison! Anyway, Tammi Terrell and Heatwave are the only 2 I am interested in. The Fat Boys were never teetering on the edge of the big time, from what I gather-they were like a whole neighborhood away.

Teddy is unsung in a way in that he never really got anywhere near crossover success and his accident was tragic. That Mikki Howard ep is gonna put my ass to sleep.

highfive

See, I never really GOT Mikki Howard. Don't get me wrong, she is a fine singer, but in a generic way. As a matter of fact, I always confuse her with Regina Belle, another generic, but good singer. I may have my history muddled, but there were a whole bunch of good but generic singers that came out around the same time as Mikki that I lump together.
