Michael McDonald aka the mumbler...

I was just watching Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines (who I LOVE) and this song came on. I totally forgot about this song. I had to look it up tho cause I knew the melody but didn't know the name of the song since Michael McDonald tends to mumble thru every song he sings, which I find so amusing...

And while we're at it...

I don't even know what a ya mo be there is, but I still love this song, cause James Ingram is the ish, I mean really... he wrote PYT!

And my personal favorite....

I guess... if mumbling is considered soulful. lol I still dig his voice tho. Just don't know what the hell he's singing half the time.

I think he's fantastic. His background vocalist work is awesome too. Listen to "Peg" from Steely Dan, as an example.

I love the Steely Dan video where they rip apart the recording of Peg, and solo Mike's vocal bits to kinda poke fun of him a little. "Sorry Mike."

The song was originally called "Jehovah Be There" and well, that would never have been a hit. LOL Now, re-listen to the song and the religious theme will hit you like a truck. wink

I love Michael McDonald also, and am a huge fan of Steely Dan. Though I never realized Michael McDonald sang background on "Peg". But now that you mention it, I can clearly hear him now, without even going back to play the song. Seems like the most awesome artists from back in the day (...the 70's), all played with one another at some point in their careers.

Totally makes sense! Just thinking about the lyrics now. I remember hearing the song when I was younger like what the heck are they talking about? I'm old now, everything becomes so much clearer. wink
