Sorry to change the subject on this sad subject. But is Shock G George Clinton son? I didn't know he was a gifted keyboard player.

Rest In Peace Robert.

Back in the day, if there was a show here in Dallas at the Dallas Convention Center or Reunion Arena and a band couldn't make it, the Gap Band and their Ten-Gallon Cowboy Hats were sure to fill-in.

I've never attended a Gap Band concert that wasn't great, Robert would constantly work the crowd and stage.

There are only a couple Bass players I know other than Robert, that could do this none stop; Verdine White, Aaron Mills, Larry Graham, Bootsy and Flea.

From a D/FW Gapper, Thanks for the Gaptism horns

Like Verdine, Robert always seemed to be in "constant motion" on-stage.

I remember seeing them on tour with Gap IV....set was over 2 hours...lost track of the costume changes. Went home genuinely exhausted.

Robert was the "energy" in GAP's act.

It fucking SUCKS that these 3 won't get to prowl the stage together ever again. They were PEERLESS as a live act.

RIP, sad

We are losing so many of our legends lately...I'm thankful that I was able to see them live a few times. They always put on an excellent show.

I know, when you hear music being played on the radio by artist who haven't received airplay in decades, you get that sinking feeling. wow.

omg 4 more months till it ends? 2011 will be 2 years since mj going, this feels really scary, I'm in tears now sad

Well, 4 months until 2010 ends anyway. And yeah, regarding Mike: I just got his "Live In Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour" DVD in the mail yesterday - still can't believe he's gone. The older I get, the more it seems to me that life is just a series of watching everyone around you die, until one day it's YOU that everyone is talking about being gone (...but THAT's news you'll never hear).

I've mentioned it before, but this whole DEATH thing is knocking me for a loop these days. But one thing I take solace in is that Robert Wilson is in the company of some very FUNKY individuals right about now, and the party aught to be going strong by the time I get there.

hope you enjoy it, great show, and yeah this all does remind me I'm not getting younger, cause when MJ went, I officially felt like I was an adult though I was 26, I can't explain it.

Oh yeah, I had actually downloaded "Live In Bucharest" several times since Michaels' death, but really wanted a physical DVD copy because I thought the concert was that amazing. Unfortunately, I never saw this footage while he was living, and was blown away by it when I did.

I think we begin feeling older in these situations because artists that we associated with our younger days pass away, leaving us to reminisce about "back in the day". Many of us here associate The Gap Band with our youth, and we'll really miss Robert Wilson.

Back on topic to Robert, here's what Charlie said:

Charlie Wilson said:

"My brother Robert was a bad boy on the bass," Charlie Wilson said in a statement released Monday. "We shared a bond as brothers, musicians and friends. I loved him, and losing him is difficult for both Ronnie and I. The music world has lost a very talented man."

I hope he lived his final years & days to the fullest. We all must confront the specter of death; I wish to do it surrounded by those I love the most.

So long, Rob. Thanks for the enduring funk.

Oddly, the Los Angeles Coroner commented that his death appeared to be "accidental or from natural causes". The family should order a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
