The precious gift as a songwriter is that of communication, on whatever level: natural, familial or sociopolitical. The goal of any work of art should be an honest expression of the artist's own perceptions, but you have to privilege the listener, and not the writer, in determining meaning or multiple meanings from lyrics.

I think the flow is important too in addition to what was already said. I don't think it should sound awkward, especially lyrically.
