Van Halen Plans New Album, Tour? [img:$uid]http://i37.tinypic.com/2guxf77.jpg[/img:$uid]
August 7, 2010
Rockers Van Halen are back in the studio with original frontman David Lee Roth and will release their first studio album in more than two decades next year.
The group completed its reunion tour with Roth in 2008 and many fans expected them to follow up the road success with a new record, but there was no word on any upcoming projects.
However, the band recently renewed its deal with publishers Warner/Chappell and guitarist Eddie Van Halen and his drummer brother Alex have revealed they are working on new material.
They stated, "(Van Halen) is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011."
And the band will promote the forthcoming disc by hitting the road once again.
The website claims the rockers' manager and Live Nation promotions executive Irving Azoff mentioned a Van Halen 2011 tour during a discussion about concert earnings on Thursday.
Van Halen's 2008 reunion tour with Roth was a massive success. It raked in a total gross of more than $93 million, with close to one million in attendance from 74 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore
The group's previous studio album, Van Halen III, was released in 1998 and featured Gary Cherone on vocals.
Roth last appeared with his Van Halen pals on their best-selling 1983 release, titled 1984.

well the major part of this band is missing and thats Michael Anthony, without him all the high Harmonies are gone and a big piece of the rythym section and Eddie's son doesnt cut it as a bass player. I think the band has a chance even without Mike Anthony, even though it sucks that Eddie threw him under the bus just to give his namesake a chance at the big time.
It could totally happen as long as the music isn't overproduced - or weak. What made VH so strong back in the day wasn't just great musicianship, but great songwriting.
I'm expecting good things!

its not negative its just saying that harmonies will be missing from the lineup, doesnt mean they wont do better stuff , i mean peopple thought VH would drop after Roth left, but they were better without him for the most part and did things they NEVER would have been able to do with him. So they might find a new angle for what they are missing, bands do it all the time when they lose or fire a member, INXS found a perfect new singer, STYX got a perfect and a better side man in Lawrence Gowan to Compliment Tommy Shaw rather than Dennis DeYoung, so its not negative its just that old angle is gone so dont expect VH of the 70's, early 80's all of a sudden.
As for the Andre Cymone Dez reference, not really fair because its almost a guarantee they didnt even play on Prince's albums. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

interesting thing though is that commercial succes that VH had was really coming off the 1984 album, Hagar was far far from being "commercial" he never really had a hit chartwise, he had a small following but he wasnt a commercial artist. Being a huge VH fan, I can't tell you what a disappointment 5150 was in 1986. I wanted so much to believe, but the magic was clearly gone. That band needs David Lee Roth to make great music (and he needs them for the cash)

If DLR is on board this could be, at least, a good album
yeah, I also hope the wheels stay on...

i am mucho excitad, One of my facorite band's!
Now i love Hagar a lot, But it's been over 25 years since Dave did an album with VH, but it has a lot to live up to considering there last album with him was 1984 Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

David Lee Roth has an ego the size of Tommy Lee's cock, and as much vocal talent as a dried up piece of shit. And let's not even start with Eddie's cocky-ass ego. It's all about the money to these assclowns. This new album has FAIL written all over it!!!

Yeah, I think it's going to sink in a hurry. And no, Roth can't sing anymore.
But with him on board I think there's a good chance we're going to hear something interesting. Roth still has a flair for the epic and that's something the Van Halen brothers need badly.
