Macy Gray - The Sellout

I'm still listening to this album almost daily. It really is her best work to date, and I think it even beats her first album, which people still seem to love. I've also found myself really digging into The Trouble With Being Myself, and enjoying it a lot.

I got permission from Macy Gray herself to play any and all of her album on my radio show (she said, "of course. play it all day and all night", and I just might preview the whole album sometime soon!), and I'm playing a couple more songs from it tonight, including my own longer mix (which I sent her) of "Kissed It". (I'm opening the show with that song).

Beauty In The World

Kissed It w/ Velvet Revolver

The Sellout

Real Love with Bobby Brown

Lately

Target's version has 3 bonus tracks, two are acoustic takes on "The Comeback" and "Lately", and a remix of "Beauty In The World". There was an iTunes bonus track sold only if you preordered, called "Lost". It's worth digging up in the usual places. It's a haunting song lyrically, and has a weird feel because she's using a strong auto-tune throughout the song.

I love that girl, always have, and The Sellout just fucking nails it for me like never before. I just wanna hug her and hang out and talk smack for an afternoon.

I remember in an early interview once she said once she gets out of show business, she wants to be a criminal. That was going to be her next career move. I laughed out loud. I knew then that I loved her sense of humor and sarcasm and wit.

I can't get passed "Beauty In The World". I've played it three times now and still repeating. Love it.

The "Island Mix" on the Target version is good too. There are some official remixes out there that I'm trying to dig up. Check out my radio show tonight. I play other stuff from the album, and my own mix of "Kissed It" that opens the show. Click the "Permission" link in my signature file.

My best friend keeps raving about this album calling it "the best thing released this year". I haven't given it a fair listen though, since usually her voice is just far too annoying for me. confused

If you will, so will I

In general, I get tired of the voice argument. It's the minority opinion, given that she's been around for a decade, in music and movies. The album is golden.

I think we are each predisposed to enjoy or hate certain sounding voices. One of my best buds, who I share a lot musically in common with, shocked me when he hated the sound of Toni Childs' voice. It tis what it tis. Cha know?
