Vevo stops MTV.com from playing videos
According to perezhilton.com,
Music video network Vevo has pulled its content from MTV.com after the two companies failed to reach an agreement. Vevo, which is partly owned by Universal Music Group, has stopped the channel from showing videos from many popular artists such as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber on their website. This could be a huge blow to not only Universal artists, but to MTV as well. A Universal spokesman blames MTV, stating:
Meanwhile, MTV is disappointed with Universal's decision to remove their content, which brings in huge ad revenues. In their statement, they said the following:

16 years ago, this would have been a non-issue. Prime example of "if you don't use it, you lose it". Mtv had a stronghold on all music videos played until they went into the reality show game. Now, they don't have the pull that they used to. Good. They messed things up for everybody anyway. Internet killed the video star.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a pox on both their houses. Universal is probably demanding far too much money than what they videos are worth, and MTV is using VEVO as an excuse not to play music videos on their broadcast channels. So screw both of them.

Agrees. Video killed the Radio Star - Internet killed the Video Star. I grew up while *both* was still major outlets for music. The best of both worlds. I watch VH1 classic & Soul not because of my age,but because they play videos. MTV need to change their name completely. Back to videos online - Jeeze wonder if soon we'll have to completely pay for viewing any music videos?

it's just the website. Either which way, MTV needs to refocus on their television channel programming badly.

Ever since MTV reprogrammed their shit to show people acting shady on "shows", it's definitely lost a WHOLE LOT of what it used to be. The MTV of today is unrecognizable. Whatever with the website. That's hard navigating anyway. The background slugs web browsers. You can play videos but it still slugs things.

I have to completely agree with you on this. drove me crazy too with trying to watch a video through their site. I don't bother now. I just wish somehow someway a new video channel would rise with music video 24/7 of course. One can wish eh.
