Hendrix Re-Issues, Box Set Planned For Fall

August 2010

There are more Jimi Hendrix re-issues hitting store shelves this fall.

Following the March release of Valleys of Neptune (plus deluxe editions of Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland), the Hendrix Estate plans to put out new versions of Jimi Hendrix: Blues, Live at Woodstock and Jimi Hendrix Experience: BBC Sessions.

All three will be available October 9 on vinyl and CD.

There also are plans for a four-disc Hendrix box set, titled West Coast Seattle Boy. The set will include demos, alternate takes and unreleased recordings, in addition to some of the guitarist’s most legendary work. A new Hendrix documentary, directed by Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology), will be packaged with the set.

Some of the other re-issues will also include bonus material. Jimi Hendrix: Blues will feature an extended version of the Hendrix segment in Martin Scorsese’s documentary series The Blues.

BBC Sessions will get an extra Jimi Hendrix Experience track (“Burning of the Midnight Lamp” from 1967) and a DVD containing the group’s BBC performance videos.

YES!!!! Finally a new box set full of alternates, demos, rarities and other good stuff. I see I'm gonna be spending alot of cash this holiday. I was kinda disappointed with the release of Valleys of Neptune, but this has put me back in good spirits.

Check me out and add me on:

I'm interested in hearing the box set material as well. All the other stuff, eh, not so much. Kind of annoying that they're doing re-releases of already existing albums with little bits and pieces added on as a "bonus". The abundance of pointless Jimi albums is what people have been complaining about for years. Once every live bootleg known to man by every band who ever played a gig made it's way on to the internet I just stuck with downloading Jimi's shows instead of dealing with the massive mess of his post-death studio releases. Haven't even purchased Valleys, yet. However, the box set does sound interesting. I just think they should have included everything in that instead of trying to milk more money from people by tacking stuff on to the re-releases of older albums.

It will. It may not be immediately after he passes, but probably will happen eventually.
