Thanks Swa! It's funny reading this now. I can pick out exactly where I guessed right and where I didn't have a clue. Always loved the message in this joint

From what I know it was meant to be exactly how it is today. Majority of the BOTDF tracks were recorded during HIStory tour, but "Blood on The Dancefloor" (the song),was originally meant to be on Dangerous(the album). I dont think MJ would intentionally put out 2 albums so close to one-another. I think that album was only really meant to help promote "Ghosts"(movie).
As far as I know Gone Too Soon is a docu about MJ by Ian Halperine(a known liar). It aired on the one year aniv of MJ's passing. I guess you could kinda say its in Mj's favor, but it wasnt that exicting for me. If you'd like to see it,it might air again during or around the time of Mj's B-day(Aug 29).
I hope I answered your questions properly and didnt give you any incorrect information. And If I have,I hope someone who knows for sure will help you out more. YOU DON'T NEED A BUS PASS FOR ME TO BUS YOUR ASS,NIGGA !

At almost every show since Mike's passing Stevie has done something for Michael. A true friend. Here's him doing The Way You Make Me Feel two days ago.

This extended dance mix of this cut easily blows the original album version out the water:

Blood On The Dancefloor and Superfly Sister were meant for Dangerous (Supefly Sister was part of the sessions when Work That Body, She Got It, and To Satisfy You)
Ghost goes as far back as 1991 "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Yeah only "Morphine" and "Is It Scary" scream HIStory era.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah they all sounded late 80's/early 90's to me when I got BOTDF, nothing like r&b/pop music at the time, which is why I didn't think it sold high numbers at that time
Was Is It Scary recorded during the HIStory sessions since he was working with Jam & Lewis anyways?

Yep.
"Ghost", "Blood on the Dance Floor" and "Superfly Sister" were originally going to be on Dangerous but he recorded them later. [Edited 8/12/10 14:05pm]

Yeah, it seems that the two has a lot of respect for each other. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

I wish Stevie would do a MJ tribute album. Hearing him perform this and "Human Nature" is the next best thing to hearing Michael sing them himself. Whenever I hear anyone else sing Michael's songs since his passing, it makes me miss Michael terribly, but when Stevie does them, he makes them fun and enjoyable somehow. Thank you for sharing this. This is exactly why I love BOTDF so much. He was criticized about not following his peers, but when you listen to it now it doesn't sound like any of the stuff that came out at the time period which, imo, makes it even better in retrospect. It sticks out from what was being released. Which is why I thought that Invincible was such a surprise when it was released.
Also, I know it's beating a dead horse, but I really don't understand all the Invincible hate amongst MJ fans. Besides maybe Cry, and all but the ad libs from You Are My Life, I think the album is surprisingly good. I don't find it as disjointed as some of his earlier works either, particularly Bad. To me it's very r&b and adult contemporary-ish. My only criticism is that the first three tracks should have been either cut down to two or spread out, because some of them sound so similar that I can't tell which one is coming on. Some of my favorite tracks are: Threatened, You Rock My World, Heaven Can Wait, Speechless (initially hated it), and Butterflies. I like Whatever Happens too, but it reminds me too much of that other 90s song Smooth that drives me up the wall anytime I hear it being played, even though it's been about 10 years since it came out.

I love BOTDF too and played it all summer when it came out, so many memories with that album. But when Janet's Velvet Rope came out and sounded completely different, I didn't touch it for awhile and went on an mj hiatus for 2 years though in 1999 I got excited again with the more mj news we heard with the new album, and continuing to update my collection and falling even more in love than I already was. I would still say for awhile it's not his best cause Bad and Dangerous are his best and I would say Invincible too for a long time cause I played the hell out of it for the first 2 years, but now I'm crazy about BOTDF again, I love how upbeat and edgy it is, even more than HIStory IMO and it gets me pumped.

Nah Blood On The Dancefloor is the original '91 mix. He released it as is
Ghost was done for the movie, he had the short film in mind for years "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Oh.
Hmm, so when was "Is It Scary" and "Ghosts" recorded because both songs have the same lyrics...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I read somewhere he started filming Ghosts in 1993 and had to put it on hold cause of the allegations before continuing, is that true?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Ghost came first then Is It Scary evolved from it I think "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
it had to have been during HIStory sessions since one was with Jam & Lewis, and the other had lyrics that were practically autobiographical
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Ah... so the timeline as you put it, "Ghost" was recorded in '91, then "Is It Scary" like not too long after that? I wonder if the released cut of "Ghosts" is '91 too. It sounded like he reworked "Is It Scary".
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hmm, bboy mentioned "Ghosts" being worked on first in 1991 (and it makes sense since he and Teddy Riley co-produced it) and "Is It Scary" was recorded around the time of The Addams Family Values and they were gonna put that song on the soundtrack but didn't because of scheduling conflicts.
