Klymaxx Appreciation!

Gotta Love Bernadette!

Meeting in the Ladies Room...... (sorry the video cuts out one verse)

"I'd hate to come down to their level, and become a BW, a Basic Woman. . ."

Love how they name check their own song ("The Men All Pause"). I moved to the bay area and when they do the "I'll be Your Freakazoid" they mix in the actual Midnight Starr for a second. They never did that in New york.

I lways wanted to know why

1) she always talking about her "Cooper's limousine"? Did she own a limo company or what? smile

2) the"Kitty girl" (in the men all pause ... who's Kitty? LOL

"Cooper's Limousine" was a popular Black owned & operated Limousine company in Los Angeles at the time this song was released. I'm assuming that's the reference.

Anne Frank used to refer to her diary as "Kitty". I always assumed when she mentioned "Kitty Girl", she was talking to, or writing in, her diary. Again, just my assumption.

And yeah, there was JUST a Klymaxxx Appreciation thread, like a few weeks ago.

Oh really? Was it owned by Bernadette or one of her relatives (her last name is Cooper).

I don't believe so. It didn't seem that she was claiming ownership of it, just that she was riding in it:

Lyrics:

I know I was lookin' good
I had my Kenneth Cole shoes on
My Gianni Versace blue leather suit
My nails were done and my hair was fierce
And I was riding in a Cooper's limousine
Don't you want to ride

Oh, wait! I didn't realize that. Never considered what her last name was. So maybe it's the same Cooper family, I don't know. But Cooper's Limousine was a big deal back then among the elite Black Community.

Got it. Guess it was a West Coast thing. I'm in Cali now but grew up back East and never hearda that in New York.

There actually is/was a Flyte Tyme limo service in new york, but I don't think it had anything to do with Jam & Lewis

Thanx 4 posting these again, Shango. Seeing them makes me kinda sad, tho. LOVED those girls & those pix were from their high time in the spotlight.

If only...they were a new band today...in this era......they'd be major.

Hell, they WERE major. Gurls could PLAY. Those 1st 3 albums were the BOMB.

I know they have supposedly been working on new material (sans Cooley)......wish they would wrap it up & get back out there. They remain a fun live act (as the YouTube clips attest).

I understand nod The more I reminisce about the music of my youth, the older I realize I've become. That's okay though, we get to claim some of the best music from the 70's & 80's!
