As someone the same age as Soulja Boy, I can't even wrap my head around how this is even remotely tolerable. Most of my friends have decent tastes in music, but the age group as a whole...smh disbelief Of course these are the same people that think Drake is a REALLY good singer, hmpf.

I don't know what to tell my children about hits from my teenage years confused

lol

Well that's ok....knowing what a good singer is usually comes with age. When I was a teen I thought the Spice Girls and Britney had nice voices so....I definitley learned a few things.

I used to hate them both when they came out but looking back from a distance now say what you want for them but 'Say You'll Be There', 'Mama', 'Spice Up Your Life', 'Viva Forever', 'Baby One More Time', 'Crazy', 'Ooops I Did It Again' and 'Lucky' are all pretty damn good pop songs of the 'Like A Virgin' kind... simple, fun to listen to and with no pretences of being deep, world-changing or innovative... (my opinion of the Backstreet Boys though remains the same... they were crap). Moreover the vast majority of solo Spice singles were good too and Britney (judging by the singles) did show some capability for growth in her sound, well until before the last studio album that is

I refuse to even call this music, because it simply is not. It's a ploy and a scam and I dare say this kind of ignorant bullshit is making black people slaves again.

This is the death of culture right here. I think people ought to get mad.

The hell is this shit?

The first thing I thought of was Stevie from Malcolm in the Middle who always took deep breaths between sentences.

Then I found this:

CAN YOU SAY - "HEAD OF THE NAIL etifaim?"

Recalling that brilliant episode of MITM, I had to press play to see if there was a resemblance. ...O SHIT! I think I love Soulja Boy! This must be a Stevie Swag homage, right? How could it be anything else. I think I hate the music listening public though, cause there is no way a sparse tribute to Stevie should be any kind of hit. I think the producers of MITM should have a law suit behind this.

FYI - Craig Lamar Traylor (Stevie) has grown up to be a fine young man with several movie roles about to be released in 2010.

Yeah, I checked out his profile on imdb about the same time I discovered that video, and yes he is doing quite well and is a very handsome young man nod

I dont want to come off as an old foggy because my generation had Ace of Base and we survived.

are you kidding with me????

AoB had plenty of great singles, with infectious melodies and very catchy choruses; yeah, they were cheesy, but at least the singles had quality, and they worked with professional producers.

as someone said before, Soulja Boy sounds as if he recorded his songs in just 20 minutes...in his bathroom...The problem is that the industry tolerates crap like this...and that amazes me...this is almost a nightmare, a nightmare where professional songwrites are nowhere to be found and where executives just don't care about the quality of the singles anymore. THIS IS the end of the mainstream music industry... THIS IS, perhaps, THE WORST SONG ever and it's a top40 hit!!!!!

almost any pop act of the 90s is like 100 times better than any group/"artist" of the 05-10 era...Shit, I CERTAINLY prefer Vanilla Ice instead of Soulja "Piece of Shit" Boy and Ace of Base instead of Rhianna ...

I didnt listen to it, but the big hit song I've always thought was the lamest, most childishly and badly written song I'd ever heard, not to mention completely un-catchy, was God Send Me An Angel by Amanda Perez. And I was in my early teens when that came out. Its just hideous in every way possible. I wrote better songs (or at least the same quality) when I was 8 years old.

It is really bad, bought in store drum beat, Cheep ass shot, just him and his homies hanging around and a lot of nonsensical lyrics. If this is state of fashionable music in 2010, I am glad I am unfashionable and listen to old school (Thats what my Year 9's say) music from the 80s because this really bad. Honestly this is like the dumbest rap ever taken and then that shit is dumbed down even more. I would estimate that guys IQ at around 60 - 65.

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I sometimes feel like I don´t fit into this world as well, musically. My friends of my age keep on posting Ne-Yo videos and Eminem´s and I also try to listen to some of them hoping that maybe they won´t be as horrid as I expect them to be and I am always disapointed. I feel like it would be rude of me to comment on it that it´s total crap. Sometimes I do, but most of the time I don´t cause I don´t want them to start hating me. lol A friend of mine called me weird yesterday when we discussed music. Well, I guess I am and I couldn´t be more thankful for that. But yeah, I am also worried about the future cause I can´t believe what kind of crap is popular these days and that many people are really INTO it.

I had the same when I was in high school but not because I liked old music but because I was the only person in the whole class who wasn't into rock, heavy metal, big hair bands etc... don't worry from what I have seen all the people who like only what's hip (and they're plenty of them believe me) usually don't buy any music at all and by the time they're 30 they just don't care about music at all... which is sad because they are missing a lot of stuff... and OK your friends at least listen to Eminem, it could have been much much worse lol

Well, perhaps those hipsters of the late-80s missed a lot of GREAT stuff during the 90s, but the 90s hipsters were smart when they avoided the mid-00s crap lol Nowadays there is not a lot of great stuff, just 4 or even 5 truly worthy albums each year (and I'm being generous), and I'm including music from all over the world, not just the UK and the USA...

True true... but I don't mean they are not into just current music... i mean they don't listen to current music because they don't like it and they don't expand into whatever old music they know... so they are left with the major classics which is not much anyway

btw can't speak about the whole world but greek music has been crap this last decade too... also here there are no cd releases at all anymore. Everyone releases their cds Prince-style (as a free giveaway with magazines). The cds which are released normally are the exceptions.

Let me say this, I think the song is brilliant. Mr. Souljaboytellum or whatever his name is has perfected a new vibe in music that obviously appeals to a lot of people. He's a modern day hit maker, his music is definitely unique and has a forward vibe about it.

Ya know it!

This past decade has been full of minstrel show revivals. I won't dismiss the fact that there were good stuff here & there, but mainstream wise, it always proved to me that I never see myself or anybody else I know portrayed in the media,,,be it TV, movies or music.

Make no mistake though, its a matter of time untill folks collectively wake up from the passive "it must be good otherwise it wouldn't be spoonfed to us" bullshit mentality and start supporting substance over fluff again.

Or at least, one can only hope.
