Phil Perry/EW&F I've always been in awe of Phil's voice. I remember a buddy of mine visiting a Lee Ritenour gig, and seeing for the first time Phil performing there with the band. He never saw Phil before and told that this big dude came onstage and blew the audience away lol. Lee recorded a track called "If I'm Dreamin (Don't Wake Me)" which has this upliftng feel when the chorus comes in, and around the end there are some more ad-libs by Maurice White ! Too bad it's not on youtube yet :

Phil's career goes way back to the mid-late 70's, when he was part of a group called "The Montclairs". On youtube are a number of great tracks available. Around the early 80's, Phil formed a duo-group with Perry Sanlin. They recorded an impressive arranged version of EW&F's "Can't Hide Love" :

I really like the Montclairs, I even own a copy of their album. I haven't really listened to Perry's post-Montclairs stuff though.
On the Org since 2005.

I learned of Phil through late night television.
Back in the day, Arsenio used to have nights devoted to folks singing. It'd usually be Perry with folks like George Duke and Rachelle Ferrelle.
A fun time would be had by all. | |

Great that Arsenio put them in the spotlight on tv
One of the first tv-shows where i saw Phil appear was in this GRP-special around 1985, on Super Channel :
I eventually found some of those shows on laserdisc, and later some on dvd :
