I interviewed singer, writer, and producer Angela Johnson last night on my radio show. She mentioned she was in a band called Cooly's Hot Box, a band I'd never heard of. She mentioned a lot of folks considered them the American version of Brand New Heavies. I had totally missed them over the years, and ended up digging around on YouTube for some of their songs. They were pretty damn awesome! And I can see the correlation with BNH, too.
