Indie soul artist Conya Doss returns with her 5th album, Blu Transition, in September. Blu is the follow-up to Conya's Still, which won for her the 2008 SoulTracks Readers' Choice Award for Female Vocalist of the Year.

Album details and full track listing have yet to be announced.

I'm enthused to read the full transcript of that interview. I own all of her CDs except for 2002's A Poem About Ms. Doss. Her music is refreshingly soulful, never stale or formuliac.

Totally agree. I always try to find those types of artists that make really great music, and write from the soul. I've interviewed other folks who I feel approach their music the same way, like N'dambi, Jeffery Straker, Angela Johnson, etc. I'm wanting Leela James on the show as well. Conya confirmed yesterday. I think the 26th will be her date. But I'll start a new thread about it when it's all set in stone.

The piano solo in the intro vaguely reminds me of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me".

Still is my fave of hers and an excellent starting point for those unfamiliar with her recordings.

Update: The new album is scheduled for release on Sep 28th.
