I heard one of his raps last year, one of the most boring lyricists I ever heard, if you can call him a lyricist that is... I can't say he's a rapper.

I like a good amount of his music but his voice is really monotone. It works for some of his stuff, but not all of it "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I've had this conversation with a bunch of people since the hype started. A lot of them have not agreed (because they're BLIND - I say). I think he's wack. Not generic, WACK! The thing that bothers me the most, dude is an ACTOR! He played Jimmy Brooks on 'Degrassi - The Next Generation' (a Canadian show about high school kids) from 2001 to 2009. For 138 episodes. He's an ACTOR! Get it? It's an ACT! WACK! In case you haven't noticed I don't dig this guys music.
Here's the Degrassi link. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0288937/ His name is Aubrey Graham.

i dont get his hype at all, he sounds like some kinda monotone robot on his records and when he performs live he has no flow at all.and who told him he can sing?

I like Drake alot-My son plays his songs alot. I even bought Thank Me Later and not trying to be funny, but I think his 15 minutes is almost up

You're spot on. He's one of the dregs of the music business.

I rather like Drake. He's a bit wussy, but I'd smash the homie. Plus I'd rather listen (and look) at him over Lil Wayne or Nicki Minaj.
In fact Nicki Minaj irks me way more than Drake as far as no lyrical skills and no talent and no appeal whatsoever.

Her voice is rather disturbing

.........WACK!!
Five years ago he would have been laughed at. Ten years ago somebody would have whooped his punk ass. Most hip-hop is as fake as pop music now.

I am not a fan. His voice, look, and lyrics do nothing for me. I'll take Bow Wow over some dang Drake, lol. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Different strokes for different folks. Least y'all not trying to breathe it down our necks like the other album in the main board.

He's awful with a strang amount of hype surrounding him, which I guess is probably the label's doing. What makes it worse is when people call him a lyricist, but he isn't. It'd be safe to classify him as Pop Rap right?

He got cool points for getting Francis And The Lights to produce a track for him "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

He was created by his record label.
I dont like the manufactured sound of his music along with his 'backstreet boy that raps' image.
As a lyricist he is very overrated, his flow isnt very versatile either.
His music is aimed towards women and a woman I am not.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

I dislike her whole "style". She is nothing for young women to neither listen to nor emulate. She is the epitome of wackness (rapping the names of the Christmas reindeer?!? your pass needs to be revoked). Her "sexuality" is extremely beyond (I say this as a woman who grew up with Kim, Foxy, and Trina, no less). No I cannot cosign with Ms. Minaj being touted like she's the next best female rapper. MC Lyte's fart sounds better than this chick.
At least Drake gives geeky dudes something to aspire to, and he is a role model in the sense of showing young men how to perservere and achieve. I can't hate on a young man trying to be upwardly mobile and educated. He impresses me as a hardworking intellignet young Black man.

He's no Rakim, but I think he's talented. I think he's a breath of fresh air as far as the rap scene with its tired ass wannabe thugs. I'm sure that a part of the hype was because he's different from what we're used to seeing and hearing in rap nowadays.

It still feels like I am listening to recycled T-Wayne to me.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
basically, but in a much more attractive package containing less thug
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
There's sooo much rap around that's not thuggish. As a matter of fact, thug rap has pretty much gone back underground. Most "pop" rap is party rap these days. He's different from what people are used to SEEING because of how he dresses and because he's a "pretty boy" type.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
True, but I particularly had mainstream rap of the last 10-15 years in mind. There's still that thuggish mindset in much of what is being played today (of course not all). There was a mini backlash against Drake after a while for being "not hard," "a nice guy," and the silly ass "snitch" controversy. That was what I was mainly referring to.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
But what replaces it? You can't just remove an unattractive element, or your whole style is wallpaper.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That makes two of us. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Drake's a scrub. He needs to take his wackass lyrics back to that wackass tv show he was on. He and Nicky Mi-gar-bahj needs to leave the industry. Forever. You can call me "ROC" for short
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I truly agree with the bold. Oh, and I'd smash the fuck out of Nicki Gar-bahj. [Edited 7/11/10 9:22am] You can call me "ROC" for short

I'll take "Things we knew from birth for $1000, Alex" . You can call me "ROC" for short
