The woman is sinfully underrated. Whenever I hear her style of singing, its no wonder where many of the 90s female R&B singers got their style from.

She's to them what Charlie Wilson was to them.

You mean what Charlie Wilson was to male singers in the '90s? Yeah I agree.

Co-to-the-sign ! This is what Zapp's slowjams made so great ... a fine blend of her powervoice mixed

with Fender Rhodes, horn-arrangements, guitar-chops, etc.... toptune ! Glad it got reposted on youtube.

A brief stage-appearance during a Zapp-show... Roger gets crazay !

There was a drag queen that got a lot of her style from Shirley Murdock also. She went on tour as Shirley Murdock, she went to Shirley Murdock's family reunion, and she even slept with a man that thought he was sleeping with Shirley Murdock. I bet that guy thought that Shirley was a stone cold freak because in order to fool him, you know the drag queen could only either blow him or take it up the ass but never let him see the front. lol

falloff

The drag queen was on the Sally Jesse Raphael show back in either the late 1980s or early 1990s telling her story. I forget how she got caught but I think she was trying to buy something or check into a hotel or something as Shirley Murdock. She wasn't impersonating Shirley Murdock as a look-a-like act in a show, she was actually trying to live Shirley Murdock's life. It was either Shirley or her management that was trying to sue the drag queen at the time.

On the same show, there was a gay man that was hooking up with people and making them believe that he was Sidney Portier's son. I think they said that Sidney didn't even have a son.

Oh, I didn't say the drag queen slept with Shirley's boyfriend. The drag queen slept with a member of her band (the drag queen's band, not Shirley's band) and he thought he was actually playing for the real Shirley Murdock out on tour. I'm telling ya, this drag queen went all out trying to be Shirley Murdock. lol

David Hampton: ‘Sidney Poitier’s son’

One night outside Studio 54, bouncers stopped David Hampton until he said he was actor Sidney Poitier’s son. He began using "David Poitier" as a way to get free meals and lodging or handouts from celebrities such as Calvin Klein, Gary Sinise, or Melanie Griffith. He was arrested and convicted of fraud, and in 2003 died of AIDS-related complications. His story became the basis for the play and movie, “Six Degrees of Separation,’’ where he was played by Will Smith.

Yep. That's him. These folks took him in. I can see playing that con on average Joe's but these folks were celebrities. You would think they would have called Sidney Portier and checked it out or something.

I KNOW!!! That is just crazy! Especially with all of the agents and managers in Hollywood, they should have known better.

^ I still watch that movie dumbfounded by those people who took dude in. I would've known something was up IMMEDIATELY after he said he was Sidney's son, like "for real?! You could've fooled me, I've read on Sidney's bio, I didn't see you in family pictures..."

Then I called for POLICE! lol

OMG, I remember dancing to this song in junior high. I also remember seeing her open for Luther during the Give Me The Reason tour. Such a great performer.

I remember people used to make fun of me because I had Shirley Murdock's greatest hits on my shelf in my college dorm. "Who the HELL is that?" I'd be all "Y'all don't know nuffin bout that. Pipe down."

As We Lay and Go On Without You are my faaaavorite songs from her. You just made me wanna pull out the CD and update the iPod. wink

And I remember being like O_o when I found out that Six Degrees was a true story. I don't know how the real wanna be Portier did it, but Will was quite convincing.
