They released this monsterjam !
When first hearing it back then, i thought it were The Bar-Kays lol ! The verses have some sort of feel from Lakeside's "Fantastic Voyage", and there's some Cameo-vibe in the mix as well. On SugaHill baybabubba !

They released about 3 albums, including one with the classic "The Bottle" I once bought their last album on Sugar Hill :

Btw, does your copy of their Sugar Hill-album include "Monsterjam" ? I don't have my copy in direct reach, but i do remember that track being pressed on my vinyl-copy, but funny enough not credited on the albumsleeve. Jus' wonderin' lol.

If the black guy was painted white and vice versa it would make a lot more sense.

Couple thoughts on this....
Noticed that one of the songs on the "Shades of Creation" album was "We Love To Party"....maybe they just loved to party with body paint? OR.....if they had WORN SHADES on the cover..maybe that woulda tied the concept together
No hints from the other covers....but they SHOULD have had art on the Monster Jam 12...that woulda been one badd motha scratcher, I bettin. Funk Is It's Own Reward

I agree. On my playlist to this day. The only thing that I always wondered was just how much influence this "band" actually had in the song's creation. It SOUNDS sooooooo much like Sekou Bunch & The West Street Mob (who ruled those studios at that time).
Always thought maybe these "c-listers" got a free ride on the tails of the REAL funk creators @ Sugarhill.... Funk Is It's Own Reward

THIS IS NOT THE SAME "BROTHER TO BROTHER" - The two guys on that cover stopped recording in the 70's. The had only one minor hit, "Chance Wit You." They never recorded for the Sugarhill label.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Actually, they did record for Sugarhill. I just checked the back cover of the "Brother 2 Brother" album on Sugarhill, and the songwriter and producer for that album is Billy Jones, who is also featured on the 70s Brother To Brother recordings. In fact, he is the black dude on the cover of the "Shades In Creation" On the Org since 2005.
