Syreeta - How Many Days (1972)

Something tells me this was written after Stevie & Syreeta separated. Didn't they divorce the year this came out?

Harlepolis

I'm confused as to whether they were seperated at the time or later, but I know they were already seperated when she recorded her 2nd album.

This song says it all...

Peep Stevie all the way back @ the background.

The timeline probably says it all IMHO.

Stevie & Syreeta's romance went back to 1969 (Syreeta being 22, 23; Stevie only 19), they married in September 1970 ("Signed, Sealed & Delivered" becomes a hit and at the same time, the two write songs that would make Wonder's Where I'm Coming From in 1971, his album of rebellion against the Motown system, plus you can feel the romantic heat between them during "If You Really Love Me", which only featured Syreeta in background. In fact besides from Stevie, Syreeta is the only other person on the album to provide background vocals on that album), around the time of Syreeta, Stevie was already making masterpieces like Music of My Mind and Talking Book (both albums Syreeta also played a huge role in). And I think Syreeta was released FOLLOWING Talking Book, which make some of the songs seem quite somber compared to the more introspective and lighthearted Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta.

On that one it seems as if both Stevie and Syreeta were recounting where it went wrong and how they realized they were probably better off as friends. I think I read a Stevie bio and they said Stevie and Syreeta had a brother-sister type of relationship lol
