I've been a fan of Eric Benet's since the seminal album, 'True To Myself' (1996), which was a fantastic album, and diverse. Unfortunately, that album wasn't promoted properly, and his subsequent releases weren't nearly as diverse, and were a little more generic and mainstream.

This song is nice though.

If U haven't heard the 'True To Myself' album, I highly suggest U do. There R some major players on there as well, such as Roger Troutman.

No, they treated him that way because he was a fraud. He was coming off as this Mr. Do-right dude but was fuckin' broads left and right and fucked over Halle - Black America's sweetheart. So it was his "perfect man" public persona they were attacking, and rightfully so.

Yeah, watching her thank him profusely when she won only to find out that he was caught leaving his apartment with his ex that morning was a trip. Definitely not a playa move. hmph!

Very accurate. But I still think the operative term here is 'Black America's sweetheart,' we could name many entertainers who have cheated on their wives without their careers suffering to near the extent Eric Benet's did.

Plus there's hearsay that the initial significance of the union was more for appearance than devotion. Eric per hearsay was steadily seeking sensual diversity even before Halle blew up about it. The blow up seemed to arise when he started having genuine feelings for a couple of those partners in diverse sexual expression.

Nah, during the runup to the Oscars she was definitely America's sweetheart, black, white, and green. Her appeal was also broadened significantly during this time and you heard a lot more white folks claiming her biracialness.

The backlash is much different when the woman is the bigger star and the masses feel protective over her and she gets cheated on by some womanizing cad. It plays totally different than when a powerful man does it. Just look at what happened during the whole Sandra/Jesse debacle.

I disagree. I think he was well on his way to broadening his appeal until that mess broke while Halle was America's sweetheart. Hurricane was easily the best R&B album the year it came out and couldn't get much love from radio cuz it was released after the Halle mess.

That tour with Ledisi and MC was cancelled a week or two after it started. Eric routinely plays dumps, at least he does when he comes to Dallas. He can't sell out decent, small venues. I don't even think he gets booked at Essence any more. All this is a tragedy considering he's one of the most talented R&B talents out there. Definitely better than wackass Robin Thicke.

The media bias treated Eric Benet very unjustly with all the 'sex addict' accusations and desparaging statements on his character. Everyone who has met or known Eric Benet personally (both male & female), from what I've heard, say he's a good person.

Without the negative media, with Eric Benet's talent and personal appeal, I think he'd be steadily at the top of the music charts by now.

A good person is one thing....a "sex addict" is an entirely different matter. His character is very flawed

after Halle Berry. The media loves Halle no matter. As for this new song Sometimes I Cry, I'm not feeling it at all.

love He's so damn talented even tho this is yet another Prince rip. Too bad that Halle fiasco fucked his career up.

[Edited 7/20/10 8:26am]

take Prince's woman, takes Prince's music......razz

Exactly!. It sounds like Prince's mega internet hit song "U make My Sunshine". A lot of his slow songs(well that is all he does) especially when he sings falsetto are a rip off of Prince. Then he is dating Prince's ex after cheating on Halle. But he is gifted & underrated. But there is only one master of the balladeers in the vain of Prince. That is PRINCE........
