The Group Klymaxx I always had mixed feelings about the group Klymaxx. I mean I was all for the "girl power" and all, but I did not like songs like "Meeting in the Ladies Room", and "The Men All Pause" and those songs were like the groups biggest hits. The songs that I liked were like never played in heavy rotation on the radio such as "Man Size Love". One song that I really liked was "Still Say Yes". Not sure if anyone saw that series "Bans Reunited" or something like that, major rift in the band concerning Cheryl Cooley. I also wasn't really paying attention back then, but was that female drummer "Bernadine" or "Bernadette" any real good as far as a drummer, or was she just hype? Also seems like there was only one really vocally talented one in the group, and another one who could "sing", the rest were like.....Zzzzzzz'z

Not so long ago, drummer Bernadette Cooper posted in this forum! She mentioned that they are working on a new Klymaxx album.

Well now you got me thinking about editing my comments about the group on this thread. I wouldn't want Bernadette or anyone else for that matter to show up, see the thread and get offended. I liked the group, it's just that the songs that I liked, they never played much on the radio. The songs that were always playing, I could have really done without. Still don't know what the hell "a meeting in the ladies room" was about....was there about to be a fight? Were they only gonna put on some make-up?" SMH. That song took off like a rocket. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

lol,I think "Meeting In The Ladies Room" is about women at a nightclub and the various dramas that they sometimes go through. They have to deal with crowded restrooms, powdering their noses and fixing their hair, and females who try to steal their boyrfriends. It's a fun song.

Quite frankly, I stopped listening to the, when the put out "I'd Still Say Yes" and "Man Size Love". Those songs did not have the grit that the others had, I guess I am too "old school". Their songs are what I miss about radio, real musicians who's music said something. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

It seems you may have no idea what you're talking about. Those ladies are fierce, and talented beyond belief. Up to that point, give me the names of five all girl bands who could play and write like Klymaxx did. Go ahead - I'll wait.
They're sweet girls too. Bernadette, Loretta, Joyce, Lynn (who is hysterical) - all are great women. Cheryl "Fool" Cooley did the girls wrong and I can't deal with her nonsense.
The only real Klymaxx is the one with Bernadette, Joyce, and Loretta.

Klymaxx's Meeting In The Ladies Room was an epic LP. It was great from beginning to end. There were songs on the album like Love Bandit, Video Kid, Lock and Key and Just My Luck that were great but didn't get the attention I Miss You, Meeting In the Ladies Room, and Men All Pause got. I wouldn't worry about it Reel, the thread that SoulAlive mentioned, the comments/opinions weren't always complimentary. If you didn't like the song, you did like it.

Mmm Hmm...these ladies were NO JOKE when it comes to chops. The "Meeting" album (was) is a commercial smash.....but make no mistake......... these ladies could throw DOWN as musicians at every position.
Check their first 3 albums....they really kicked ass. Funk Is It's Own Reward

I hated "Still Say Yes" thought it was a rip off of my favorite Klymaxx song, "I Miss You". Loved the spunk of the group though.

It seems that you think your point is the only one that counts when it comes to music or anything else for that matter. Why even comment on any of my threads? We will never see eye to eye on anything. You remind me of a ranting child. Theres a great way to get your ideas across, but you choose the juvenile style tactics in which you do so and it's always a turn off. And I aint giving you the names of didley.

It's obvious that those girls careers soared because of the songs that I hated. But I was really digging the songs where you could hear more of the vocal talent than the "rants" and "chants". I saw Cheryl Cooley's version of the group at the Oakland Art and Soul Festival back in about 2006- 2007, they sounded wild and untamed, and not necessarily in a good way in my opinion. But many of you who liked the girls for the songs mentioned earlier may have felt differently about the performance.
As far as Cheryl Cooley is concerned, I aint mad at her. How many times have groups such as the Temptations and others split apart, yet members of the group still feel the importance of maintaining the groups name while they perform with other non original group members. Nothing new there. She has to make a living too. But I think where she lost trust is that I "believe" that on that Bands Reunited show, she stated that she would no longer tour as Klymaxx with non original members, and she went out and did it anyway. Hell, she shoulda just said what she was going to do and kept doing it until the band got back together. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

It's not about "making a living" as it is about integrity. Groups like the original Klymaxx and the Temptations were more than just a group they were a brotherhood and in Klymaxx's case, a sisterhood. When you do what Cheryl did, it is looked at as betrayal and you don't betray family. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I just got this song on 45 Monday. Nice tune.

I love their edgier dance material. I admit I felt they could've done a whole lot better than they did but considering how they had to deal with record industry politics and backstabbing (Cheryl Cooley I'm looking at your ass), I can see why they kinda faded when they did. I'm glad that Bernadette, Joyce and Loretta are keeping up the legacy of the real Klymaxx so it's all good.

It's the only one that counts to me. I comment because I can.
How negative of you to say we'll never see eye to eye. You were very mistaken in your assessment of Klymaxx. You were asking question that would have been offensive to any of the girls, or anyone with any sense to look up stuff.
Bernadette is a fierce drummer. Fenderella has had quite a career in songwriting and producing. Loretta "Lungs" Stewart can sing the phone book and you'd be a puddle. Lynn, in 15 minutes in the middle of the night, wrote their biggest hit, "I Miss You", while mourning a broken relationship.
Yeah, all hype. Frankly, your thread to begin with was negative. Me schooling you isn't juvenile, it's fact.

You could have stated your opinion and knowledge of the group, and saved the drama. I will no longer respond to your ongoing childish rants. I sincerely hope that you honestly don't believe that YOUR OPINION about the quality of a group, a song, a musician or anything else for that matter amounts to schooling anyone about anything. Go and have a seat somewhere juvenile. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

It was a legitimate question. A simple "yes" or "no, they're not hype" would've been enough.

Klymaxx has always been a favorite among LGBT crowds anyway.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
There are always groups in artists that appeal to the LGBT crowd moreso than others. Ie. Aretha Franklin, Cissy Houston, and countless other groups during the disco era etc. I think that the "girl power" theme may possibly be a reason for Klymaxx's appeal. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
