Did Soulija Boi and Lil Wayne really ruin hip hop?

I don't like neither one of them. SB is just lame and Weezy is just overrated, I remember when the guy was in Hot Boys for gods sakes (and even then, that shit was crappy disbelief )

But, even I hate it when people blame those two for ruining hip hop. Some of yall must have forgotten the following D4L, Dem Franchise Boyz, Lil John and The EastSide Boys....

Oh and let's not forget the asshole of all assholes...Diddy.

If you're going to blame someone, blame these jerks, (especially the first two for giving birth to Soulija Bitch) for ruining hip hop. lol

And Hell I'll even go as far as to saying NWA and 2LiveCrew kind of ruined it also. lol

The consumers. They're standards dropped too low. I'll give Soulja Boy a pass, but I don't think Lil Wayne or Drake should be as big as they are. If anything, Blu should be just as big as they are.

Standards??? I didn't realize there were any of those left in hip-hop. lol

I think this bunch is guilty of beating a dead horse. It was (in a broad sense...there remain bright spots in hip-hop underground) it was D.O.A. by the time any of em touched the mic.

nod but Lil Wayne was out way before people started paying attention to him.

People like Franchise Boys and D4L are the reasons for SB's existances.

I'm trying to be nice. mad Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman aren't mega-superstars yet so there's gotta be something left.

I don't think it's dead though. It's just in a slump, or I'm trying to remain hopeful. Maybe this decade will give us something different. But yeah, I do think it's unfair that they are blamed (no matter how awful) for something that's not really their fault.

Hip Hop is not dead, just in a coma right now. Anyway, as I said before, people seem to forget about people like The Franchise Boys and Diddy and to a lesser extent, 2LiveCrew and NWA, for ruining Hip Hop.

eek rolleyes

You can NOT be serious about blaming Niggaz With Attitudes & 2 Live Crew.

In fairnesss AND based on today's standards, 2 Live Crew did have some coonery here and there (EXAMPLES: We Want Some Pussy, Pop That Pussy, Me So Horny, etc.), but they were classic Miami Bass-driven party rappers. And the music was always uptempo, which is great to make the women shake their booties.

N.W.A. (especially with Ice Cube on lead vocals) are one of the most influencial rap groups of all-times. Straight Outta Compton, F*** Tha Police, & Gangsta Gangsta are like THE standard in blending gangsta & political rap elements together. In 2010, I don't see anyone from mainstream hip-hop/rap having the balls to even do what N.W.A. once did.

DFB were never that influential and I wouldn't give Diddy that much credit. I never had any problems with Gangsta rap, Miami Bass, Crunk or Booty music, because they all have their place. Are you sure you're problem is not just with shitty rappers and the fans that support them?

I hate shitty rappers, in general, and it goes beyond Soulja and Weezy. To say that DFB was never influential, and excuse my language, is Bullshit, especially if you're living in the south where many rappers tried to emulate them ( Soulija is a good example). And Diddy and his mostly crappy HipHop/R&B collabos didn't make things better either. lol

Some people Like Mobb Deep, Wu, and Biggie are alright with me, but gangsta rap, at the same time, it really didn't help Hip Hop that much. And as for 2LiveCrew, they just suck, I'm sorry but they were never good to begin with, the only song I even like from those guys is "Hoochie Mama", other than that, many of their songs were terrible. lol lol lol lol lol

I live in the South also, I'm aware of swag rap. I don't think DFB were influential in that. Soulja Boy sounds more like he's influenced by Crunk (or Lil' Jon) by the simplicity of his songs. XD I don't think you're supposed to take either seriously.

But again it goes back to the consumers and the fans for buying it and not really pushing for diversity today. Using Lil' Wayne and Soulja Boy as scapegoats is just tired at this point.

1. CORRECTION: Schoolly D started gangsta rap, not N.W.A.

Until N.W.A.'s Gangata Gangsta was released as the next hit single, the subgenre wasn't known as gangsta rap yet. But it was just as much social commentary as Thr Furious 5's The Message & Ice-T's 2 N Da Morning.

2. The only thing about 2 Live Crew that was wack was Luke. He was never a rapper at all, only a call and respond chanting hype man. But yet, he had a more successful solo career than Fresh Kid Ice & Brother Marquis! omg How the hell did that happen in the early 1990's?!? lol

You could say that but I still believe that DFB and hell even D4L influenced this fool to make those shitty songs. lol Which is why I put the blam on those two.

I somewhat agree, but it's most dued to the fact that many rappers lack creativity and real meaning in their music, which is why most Hip Hop music sounds popish, generic, and bland. I don't blame the south for the decline of rap. The last album I heard that was really good and felt 90s like, was The Game's first album. I am not a huge fan of gangsta rap, with the exception of a few, but man that album is, IMO, a classic.

NWA jumpstarted the whole gangster rap vibe and it has become an uncureable virus in hip-hop.

lol please stop lying to yourself, I have never heard Eazy-E make a strong political statement/promote a positive message.

Everything they said was for shock value.

Back2thetopic.

I think the popularity of hiphop is the main reason for its downfall, most listeners arent intrigued by lyricism or the art of sampling, they just care about image and bass.

Copyright laws are far more strict these days and to clear a sample costs a gang of dough so unless you have a surefire hit you are better off starting up FL studio and getting groovy on the casio.
