No. If I still had internet access at home, I could have heard it, if you know what I mean.... lol but I only have access to the internet at work these days and the computers have blocks on downloading, music players, and video players such as youtube.

I've heard great orger descriptions of the songs over in the Prince section describing it as sounding like his 1980s work, which is right up my alley. However, when I heard the description of the last song, it didn't take a genius to figure out it was shit hop and I'm tempted to not even buy the album at all because of that one track no matter how good the rest of the album may be. I'm just tired of older artists contributing to the plague that is shit hop instead of trying to defeat and find a cure for it. lol

When it's released, I may have a friend to make a copy of the album (without the last track) but I just don't want my money contributing more to the problem and my days of giving Prince a pass just because he's Prince are over. I'd feel like a hypocrit if I gave him a pass.

I haven't brought a Prince album since 3121. So don't feel bad.

3121 was straight. I dug that better than Musicology. This 20 ten album don't

come close to 3121 imo.

The Prince album is pretty good.I especially like the song "Laveaux".The entire album is very 80s retro. Some songs sound like the "Controversy" era.I think you will like most of it.

Oh, I heard a sample of three of the songs and they sounded better than what he's been doing for years. That's why I'll get a friend to make a copy of it for me because I definately want it. I just refuse to pay money for that last song.

spit

I see you finally notice for yourself that the average neo-soul track is slow. cool

"Neo stool" is my new word to go with "shit hop". I've noticed if motherfuckers aren't doing shit hop, then they're doing neo stool. It's like they just have to do something boring. It's fucking rediculous. Where the hell did people's rhythm go? It's like a new generation of Lawrence Welk except this time, it's the black version. lol

yeah, the last song is pretty terrible lol There's about two other songs that don't really move me,but the majority of the album is surprisingly strong.

I've bought all of his albums, most of which on the day of their release. My favorite on "3121" was "Love" and I enjoyed most of the album. Of course, he had to put a sellout track like "Incense and Candles" on it though, which made me taste vomit in my mouth. But that's what I'm saying though. I'm getting sick of paying for tracks like that which have a sound like the stuff on the radio....a sound that I wish would just go away. When I listen to the CD, I hurry up and hit the skip button before that song starts because when I hear stuff like that, it just puts me in a shitty depressed mood.

I think Old School artists should follow Jamiroquai's lead and pretend that hip-hop never happened.Stick with a funky sound.Keep it retro and "back in the day".Why try to appeal to a younger audience that doesn't really care about you anyway?

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! EXACTLY!

If there are those in the younger generation that have the good taste to like good music, that's fine. I love them, welcome them with open arms and applaud them for having good taste. But to try to get a hit with the majority of the younger generation that was born into the shit hop and neo stool era and that's all they know is rediculous. They could give less than a damn about him. To them, he's that "fag" from the 1980s.

Rick James fans think I was hard on "Deeper Still" but Rick James, as well as The Barkays and any other older group that sells out to today's sound are desperate for income these days. Someone like Prince though, who has millions of loyal fans around the world who never left him throughout the years and buy every single release on the day of it's release, is just plain greedy and downright hypocritical. He preaches about the state of today's music but then turns around and records tracks that fit in with it. That's playing both ends of the stick hoping to become a big star in the mainstream world again while still holding on to his older fans for backup in case he doesn't become a big star again. He's got more than enough money and a big enough fanbase of loyal fans to practice what he preaches, put out nothing but great music, give the shit hop and neo stool lovers the finger if they don't like it, and still live comfortably.

I've read descriptions of the new album from orgers that it sounds like what "MPLShit" should have sounded like....the Minneapolis Sound without an updated shit hop feel to it. It sounds like he finally got it right but he just has to continue playing both ends of the stick with some bullshit like that last track.

Exactly. nod

I wish someone would have told Madonna this during the making of the Candy albums. She really looked out of place trying to please the 106th & Park audience a while back. I wish someone would having told this to Michael during the making of Invincible before adding too many slow tracks on there.

At least it's not too late for Prince yet. I just hope he FINALLY wakes up, say the hell with the young generation for the time being, and fixed his relationship with his fans that remember him before the 1990's.

Andy, I suggest you give this infamous last track "Laydown" at least a chance. I doubt you will like it, because there is some resemblance of today's shit hop style, but imagine it a track by, let's say, Timbaland produced by the Prince of the early 1980s. In other words: even though I dislike the shit hop style and am pretty tired of it, this track has somehow kept me listening. It grabbed my interest in a way that I thought "if just shit hop was produced like this track all the time, it would be much more interesting to me". It is a weird, strange, hard-to-describe track, but this weirdness makes it a hit imo.

And you surely will like a lot of the other tracks. Thanks to the computer, you can still send "Laydown" to the trashcan. biggrin

The truth of the matter is this wasn't even a new album. House Party(2007) was

basically (2003) The Real Thing re released with 3 new tracks and a steppers

remix of Glad You're My Lady. Of the 3 new tracks i thought the ballad Superstar

was by far the best. Shonuff was okay. I can't even remember the name of the

other track right now but it was the BarKays meet crunk. lol

Fast forward to the upcoming new album which is called Live and More.

I'm hoping it's a mixture of a live album with new tracks. We already know the

new tracks is a remake of Return of the Mack as well as tracks with George Clinton,

Chuck Brown, and Doug E. Fresh. I look forward to it.

Yeah, i remember when "The Real Thing" came out, but somehow never purchased it or checked those albumtracks.

"Return of the Mack" could be sumth'n indeed with Chuck, Clint & Doug. We'll see lol !

They could have left this one alone. I actually like Shonuff better from House Party.

I surprised this is getting adds at AC Urban stations. I guess they have nothing to lose.

Actually, their producer, Allen Jones, would come up with "sound alike" songs 4 them. "Nightcruising" sounded like "Give It To Me Baby" by Rick James and "Freaky Behavior" sounded like "Super Freak." A lot of their 80's material resembled that of other "hot" acts' music. Their '85 album, "Banging the Wall," strongly resembled Prince stylings musically. smile

I totally agree.. not only for the Bar-Kays, but Kwick, Ebonee Webb, and Chocolate Milk as well.

Exactly! Listen to "Stuck Up" by Kwick or "Somethin' About You" by Ebonee Webb, "Take It Off" by Chocolate Milk and you'll hear the vast and astonishing similarities in their very Minneapolis-cloned Funk! smile

I recently posted a jam by Chocolate Milk called Blue Jeans. It sounded just like

the BarKays. Ebonee Webb was tight. I wasn't that crazy about Kwick except for

Yeah, "Stuck Up" has that synth-line from the breakdown-part/Morris-Vanity-talk in The Time's "The Walk". "Somethin' About You" sounds like "Head".

I just keep my money, don't buy their new albums, stand back, and watch them fall on their face. Hey, if they want to waste their money making an album and lose it trying to capture an audience they'll never capture that doesn't give a damn about them, that's their choice. They don't have a herd of loony fams like Prince does that will kiss his ass no matter what he releases so they are just flying without a net. lol
