American Idol Tour Ending Early (Ha!!!)

I heard The American Idol tour is ending early because of low ticket sales. Oh, fo real??? You mean to tell me, people aren't stupid enough to shell out good money to go sit through a bunch of boring songs from the most boring Idol finalists in history??? lol

LOS ANGELES — The summer tour starring "American Idol" finalists is being cut short.

Eight shows on the American Idol Live! Tour have been canceled while others have been changed, according to a revised schedule released Tuesday by tour organizer Live Nation.

The tour featuring the ninth season's top 10 singers was originally planned to end Sept. 16 in Portland, Maine, but is now scheduled to stop on Aug. 31 in Indianapolis.

Live Nation spokeswoman Liz Morentin confirmed the changes but declined to comment on the reason behind the move.

The canceled stops include Portland, Ore.; Omaha, Neb.; Kansas City, Mo.; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Toronto; Buffalo, N.Y.; and Cleveland.

Shows have been moved up in cities such as Des Moines, Iowa; Minneapolis; Chicago; and Toledo, Ohio.

The Fox singing contest, which has long been TV's top-rated series, faced falling viewership during its ninth season and at times was bested by ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" in the ratings.

A total of 24.2 million viewers watched the final duel between Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, compared to the nearly 29 million viewers who saw Kris Allen win over Adam Lambert last year.

lol My hometown show was cancelled. I think this is the first time that the American Idol Tour was cancelled because of low ticket sales.

It was a running joke this time around, Bill Maher on his show, showed a picture of the winner and said his name, and then he said "now folks that is the last time you will ever hear that name again" i have no clue who won this show, or that even started or ended, i have only liked one or two that have recorded albums from the entire run of this show, time to cancel!

I'm not too surprised. The economy still sucks, and while I'm sure that the Idol tour tickets were probably the best bargain on the tour circuit for several years running, there were no real breakout stars or personalities during this season. Other seasons had the advantage of having great singers like Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, David Archuletta, and Adam Lambert, or at least some interesting personalities like Sanjaya, Constantine Maroulis, and Jason Castro. I didn't sense any of those things with this season's contestants. While Lee DeWyze had an inspritaional backstory, he has as much personality as a dried out paint can, and Crystal Bowersox, while a good singer with a decent voice, reminds me a lot of a coffeehouse singer. And frankly, the other singers didn't interest me that much.

Yeah if there is no real interest, why even go on with a tour? Why do you think one of the past "Idol" contestants is only doing casinos and state fairs and converted movie theaters for his "major tour"? Because he knows he won't get people to cough up $100 at an arena and also he has no major hits. Besides the American Idol concerts never were hot sellers anyways.

lol @ Bill Maher. There have only been several contestants on American Idol that I have liked as well. The rest of them were bored. People seem to be losing interest in this show, and now that Simon is gone, I wonder how much longer American Idol will even be on television.

Meanwhile Adam lambert's glam nation tour has sold out every show in minutes. Although at generally smaller venues, he could have easily doubled his attendance. He was the only thing that was good on the AI tour last year and I was glad I went. He was awesome, unlike these milk duds from this year. I wouldn't pay to see this snoozefest since I was turning the channel on half of them anyway

Hopefully, this means the show will end soon too. Now if we can just get rid of "Dancing With The Stars" also with their leg kicking, leaping, ballerina looking asses, maybe we can get back to some real TV with real shows.

Well that's because his fan base only consisted of those that can pack where he plays. Some of the places he's playing are not what I would normal stops for a headlining tour. But had he gone on the same venues the "Idols of '10" were on, how much are you willing to bet he would exactly sell out? His album hasn't even gone gold here in the states and the opening acts he has are people none of his audience would recognize. His only big suit is that his shit has lasers and dancers so that makes it a big tour for him. But it's like you can do the entire play of "Cats" in converted theaters and it would be packed. So it doesn't shock me that he would choose these places because right now he's still riding on the wave of 2009. How long will that last once this "tour" is over by September?

So saying he's doing better than the Idols is only because he was smart enough not to perform at places he wouldn't have a chance of selling out.

And last time I checked, I wouldn't consider him doing casinos and fairs and festivals as a tour, it's more like he's doing an updated version of "The Zodiac Show" and "The Upright Cabaret", stuff he was doing before "Idol" which was actually no different than what he's doing now. If he wanted to impress me, he could've opened for Gaga or some shit but noooooo he wanted to do his OWN THING.

The boy barely has one hit and he's supposed to be this successful artist but he's only done marginally well because of publicity. Without his exposure on "Idol" he'd still be struggling to get a record deal.

I had to tell it like it t-i-is. cool Like let's cut the crap here. The guy was struggling to get noticed for, what, six years? And he looked at "Idol" as a "last ditch effort". Oh yeah and he was apparently high on LSD when he decided to do "Idol". "LSD can be inspiring. rainbow " Yeah and so does crack. Girl please. rolleyes

geez...did u get all the razors in your cereal this morning? if u don't like him that's cool, but dang lol. touring where u actually have a fan base seems pretty savvy to me. playing medium/small venues in a recessiion seems pretty savvy to me. if you don't llike idol, fine...but the guy paid his dues and was getting nowhere. idol opened the door and he kicked that motherfucker in.

I'm surprised it's lasted as long. I think the only reasons people watched (for real) was to see what the judges (the original judges that is) would say and the weirdos they brought to audition for something they were never gonna be a part of. lol

Totally agree. Which is why I thought folks would have figured that out a few years ago and grown tired of the fad.

I can't tell you how many times I have asked fans of that show, "Have you EVER bought an album from an American Idol winner/contestant"? 99.438% of the time the answer is a resounding no. So then I ask why the heck they watch it to begin with, and the answer is inevitably because they like to see Simon tell them how it is.

Totally blows my mind.

So if I "totally tell you" that the paint in your room is dry over and over again, you gonna keep tuning into me too?

This zombie equation permeates all forms of reality TV. At the end of the day, people are REALLY fascinated with who wins. But they never stop to ask themselves how the winner of that contest affects them personally. WHY are you really watching?

In sports, it is "your" team. In reality TV, you're watching a bunch of strangers compete over a prize you couldn't care less about and have no vested interest in. I can totally see getting caught up in the various forms of reality TV when it first started to catch fire 10 years ago. (While I never did, I can understand the draw).

But now? Who the heck cares about any of it? F*ing weirdos!!!!! smile

I'm not surprised at all. Hell, just look what passes for "music" these days and TV shows too for that matter (reality shows). People nowadays seem to be content with the cheaply made things in life. Just film some amateurs singing with some old asshole insulting them or get a bunch of dumbasses and put them all in a rented mansion together and give them tasks to make them fight. Yeah, that's real entertainment there. barf
