anyone remember "krush groove"?

I know some say this movie is cheesy as hell, but I love it!! It reminds me of a time when rap was new and hip and actually meant something. There was no "murder inc." or "bling-bling", just ryhmin' and a boombox.
sigh I miss those days. Anyway, any of you guys like this movie?

I wonder what Prince thought of his song being used in that...movie. I always thought Prince should have kept "A Love Biazzare". Did he ever record it in a studio. I heard him do a few seconds of it for "Purple Medley" and that was great!

He must not have had too much of a problem because Holly Rock's in it too.

Word has it that while they were shooting Krush Groove P was on the set almost every day , the others were complaining about him being there because of the crowd he was drawing at the time.

I was watching Krush Groove the other day, lol, the part where the Fat Boys are performing on the stairs @ school. It reminded me that rap used to be lots of things - intelligent, hardcore, serious, empowering, silly, FUN. Your FLOW was so much more important than your image - if you could move the crowd, you were cool. But there's no diversity anymore. I know times change but DAMN, everything has to be so "I'll shoot yo ass if you look @ me wrong" these days. sigh There's a few exceptions here & there but we'll never see such diversity again in the genre - fat boys rappin' about food, dudes in sweatsuits & hats rappin' about sneakers, a smooth brotha (w/ a bangin' curl, lol) rappin' about ruling the world, a scrappy kid rappin' about how much he loves his radio... Kinda sad sad

Now, about the movie: just got the DVD & watched it. I have yet to listen to the commentary but I can't wait!! biggrin Yes, it's cheesy & downright bad in spots BUT it's great to have this time in hip hop archived, you know?

I don't know what's funnier - that hideous closeup of dude from Full Force or the Prince poster on the wall of Sheila's apartment!! lol

And you know how you have to watch for LL roaming around in EVERY scene? WHY oh WHY is Chris Rock a fucking extra in one of the club scenes... eyepop evillol I'd NEVER noticed that until the other night... lol
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

ROFL!! I keep wondering how the hell Sheila got in this movie!! She HAS to feel dumb for her "Prince as an old man" antics. Hell, if Prince was there everyday was he coaching her on how to perform like him? Looks like she's trying some of his moves lol

I like 'Krush groove' but I always felt that it looked so amateurish, like they just got a bunch of the hottest rappers at the time and said "Hey,let's make a movie".I think they expected this film to be a rap version of 'Purple Rain',which may explain why they asked Sheila E. to co-star,and had Prince write and produce two songs.

As hip-hop movies go, I prefer the superior 'Beat Street' (1984).That film has a stronger story.

Daze
Grandmaster flash
Busy Bee
the Cold Crush Brothers
Fantastic 5 mc's
Fab 5 freddy
Zephyr

Story revolves around a young graffiti artist who's tag name "zorro" who no one really knows who he is... and his girlfriend Rose ( Lady pink) joins up with these other cats... and he gets upset.. but lots of great and classic Mc battles... Fantastic Vs. the Cold crush
Lil Roddy Cee Vs Busy Bee
and Grandmaster Flash Rippin up Ashley's Roachclip and Mardi Gras on a kitchen counter mixing on 3 technics 1800's

best part is at the Bandshell at the park we were all there smile
