Curtis Mayfield ballads? I love "So in Love", "Only You Babe" and the Impressions tune "I'm So Proud". I'm looking for more of his songs in this vein, what are some good ones? Extra bonus points for songs that might have influenced Prince.

If you can, buy the Sparkle soundtrack. Although the entire album is sung by Aretha Franklin, it was written and produced by Curtis. The ballads are wonderful.

On the album "There's no place like america today" there's a song called "When seasons change". I would imagine that's a track that could've inspired Prince a lot. It's hauntingly beautiful. /peace Manki

"These Are The Makings Of You". The live version from "CURTISLIVE!" is crucial. It's a real laid back version with Curtis and his guitar. I'm sure P grabbed some stuff from Curtis on that one.

That song is the most beautiful love song I ever heard...It reminds me a lot of Prince ballads... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Thanks everybody, I'm going to go back and dig those tunes...and I've glanced upon the Sparkle soundtrack but never bit. I'll try that now. Keep 'em coming!
