Does anyone know if the albums Stand, There's a Riot Going On and Fresh have been remastered or if they will be soon? Haven't got any of their CD's yet, but will certainly want these in the near future!

Also, on the issue of remastering: I often hear Prince fans complain on this website that his CD's have not been remastered by Warner Brothers as they have a continuing grudge against him, and don't want his music to live on. Surely this is bogus, I mean even the Beatles albums have not been digitally remastered since they were first released on CD!

The anthology boxset is forthcoming which will be totally remastered and is basically based around the classic trio so that'll be your best bet for now at least...

Has anyone been able to get the "Essential S&TFS" set that was supposed to be released recently?Ive picked up similar sets for Santana,Heart,EWF ,and Janis Joplin but have had no luck with the Sly one.

"Riot" was reissued a couple of years ago in slightly better sound than before, but the original master tapes were pretty murky because a drugged up Sly would perpetually re-record over them until he had the right take. The story of the making of "Riot" is hilarious - look out for the pitbull and the baboon.

As for the WB Prince CDs - the very early ones sound awful ("Controversy" sounds like it was mastered off a cheap cassette that was sitting in a truck driver's back pocket for a month). His whole WB back catalogue needs a serious sonic overhaul. I think it's more Prince than WB who not playing ball, which is not good business sense. A big remastering/reissue programme would introduce him to a whole new public.

Acording to a friend at Sony...Columbia will be re-mastering Sly's albums later on this year...
