As of today I have 28,119 in iTunes, all properly tagged, the vast majority of them 320 Kbps ABR mp3.

I was at 28,000 three years ago, I'm quite embarrassed to tell you my total as of today. Let's just say, I can open a digital music store and not run out of songs.

15,262 / 43.8 days, almost all 192kbps VBR AAC or higher.

Quite a few are duplicates (i.e. a song that's on an album, soundtrack, greatest hits), but not more that 5% or so of my library.

Some months ago, I had to back up my former external hard drive after receiving the infamous 'click of death.'

It took an entire 50 pack of 4.7GB, blank Toshiba DVD's to secure the music alone. That equals out 235GB's of music!

You couldn't just hook up a new harddrive and transfer them all over? That's a lot of burning in a short time - hope your optical drive is OK!

After my horrific experience with my Lacie external harddrive, I was skeptical on doing a hard transfer out of fear the same issue reoccuring. Luckily, I didn't have to use my cpu's optical drive as I had an external dvd-r/rw burner in tow.

I've since purchased a Western Digital external HDD. No scares for the year I've had it thus far, but I occassionally back up my files for safe measure. wink

I had 14047 on my Ipod but the artwork stopped showing up. I have everything on my laptop AND a external hard drive but I copied some stuff twice when I tried to send it over...it's a fucking mess. Not a lot of dups, but there are some.

41,027... no duplicates. I used to have the majority of the files on cd & vinyl but it was a pain in the ass as I was moving around from home to home quite a lot, I was also struggling for storage space so I had no choice but to go digital.

I know it's not as good as having physical hard copies but needs must... at least I can access my entire music collection on the go instead of having cds scattered around in my car.

Not ALL digital? I couldn't imagine. I bought some stuff MP3 only becuase I know they are albums I have little to no interest in buying phsycial copies of (or I can't). Or I'll change my mind. But I can't imagine letting go of ALL my CDs. Maybe a small handful.

Yeah, unfortunately my entire collection is all digital apart from a few signed rarities. As I mentioned I had little choice due to circumstances & space requirements. I had loads of vinyl & cd but I transferred everything when I was planning to emigrate as shipping costs would have been astronomical. At least I can still listen to them & EVERYTHING is backed up.

Yes, I'm a little bit of a music hoarder, just can never hear it all.

I add about 2 CDs a week...purchased and otherwise...don't share it though...

What I'm into this week...

The new LCD Soundsytem is cool retro and I can't get enough. My new favorite band is Barton Fink - kinda electro-FUNK

I know I can certainly never get around to hearing all the music I have, and you have ten times more than me, lol. Isn't it a great feeling though to know that a brand new song, that you've never heard before, is right at your fingertips? I'm never board for music.
