More from the "other" funk band from Portland.
"Nite Life" was a great funk album for it's time (as was the 1982 album "Waves"). Both are well worth seeking out.

Interesting track. The verses sound AOR then the chorus with the female backing vocals come in and it sounds rnb LOL. The singer sounds AOR to me aswell LOL. Great bass playing on the track.
Good find.

"AOR"........"album oriented rock".
I understand the reference on THIS track, but they were a funk band first, trust me........as the bassline in this song attests.
Their catalog is littered with synth & bass heavy "80's funk". Rog & the boys were a VERY fun band live, as well.
Electrophonic Funk (1980 debut...out of print) Shock (1981, Fantasy) Waves (1982, Fantasy) Nite Life (1983, Fantasy) Retroman (1994, Lucky)
One-Off 12'' of note......
"Slam Dunk" (1983, Rascal) "Regular Brush" (1986, Panoramic) Funk Is It's Own Reward | |

Because Imma Portland old-timer (they ran wild up here in the NW in the early-mid 80's along with Pleasure, Jeff Lorber & that whole bunch). SO many great jamz (and memories) from those days.
I have evthang Shock (and it's members ever did).
They had many other "side projects" as well........many with the same players (Joe Plass, Marlon McClain, Bruce Carter, Roger Sause, Vail Johnson, Jeff, Johnny Riley, Nate Phillips, etc.....)

Also.......this just in.......
They have a NEW ONE....released in May. It's a compilation of many of the old tracks (some re-cut for 2010).....looks like it's most of the original members, too. Album is called "After Shock".
Here's the video for the 2010 re-cut of 1983's "NiteLife"....

It's not a bad LP either.
