Michael’s choreographer Kenny Ortega was concerned about Michael’s insomnia because he knew he’d need a lot of stamina for the upcoming O2 concerts. Apparently Michael told Kenny that he’d wake up in the middle of the night with song ideas that were being given to him “from a higher power” and that he just had to write them down. Ortega wondered if Michael couldn’t make a deal with his “higher power” to give him these ideas at another time (instead of in the middle of the night). Michael responded, “no, I can’t ignore the ideas. Because then He might give them to Prince.”

This Just Proves the tremendous resepct and love that Mj had for prince nod

It's so regrettable that Prince is neither able to find in himself to acknowledge Michael's demise nor willing to talk about his impact on popular culture.

Well Prince has never really done things like that, i mean he didnt for his parents deaths, why would he start here? I dont think its needed for Prince to say his impact, it was already known, i think you have to let what you have done speak for you, and trust your fans to keep it going.

Actually Prince has done so....When he was interviewed by a French journalist about MJ's death he basically said (paraphrasing) that it's always hard losing someone that you truly love....And of course he has called MJ a genius several times....

And let's not forget that Prince was one of the few people to publicly support MJ in the late '90s when people treated him like a pariah....

Quote about MJ from a 1999 press conference: "Oh , can i just say something;i never really spoke publically about Michael , we should all just kinda like chill because he may know something
you know , just wait it out , just wait it out...."

Do you think his JW faith may have been a factor in not speaking on it?

He did play an MJ number or two in the weeks after his death, which is a typical way he honors colleagues who pass on.

These two had such a respect for each other that their competitveness would spur them onto greater heights of creativity.

It is a shame a collaboration never resulted, but their impact on popular music iin the past 30 years (longer for MJ) can never truly be measured.

Prince is smart enough 2 know that what ever he says can and will be used against him. Sometimes silence is your friend.

Harlepolis

Why should there be any emphasis on Prince to comment on MJ's passing? What difference does it make at this point? After a WHOLE year since the fact?

If anything, it makes him even more alright in my book for not being a hypocite and act like he and MJ were split from the same womb(Like many did after MJ's death, the same many who wouldn't even associate themselves with MJ, much less talk about him when he was alive).

I agree with Gray, I think his approach is more dignified and sincere,,,and anyway, people grief differently. Liza Taylor & Diana Ross didn't show up at the infamous charade, and we know how close those women to MJ.

Perhaps, Prince thinks Michael was a pedophile and, therefore, doesn't want to comment on his demise. Or perhaps he simply wants to stay way from that circus.

Bottom line is; we don't know. It is probable, though, that Prince doubts Michael's innocence and, so, doesn't want to honour him through a comment. Just a thought.

Oh really?

Do you think it is really dumb to assume that? I don't. Nor do you. You're just incapable of playing the outsider role.

Fantastic read murph, many thanks for putting this together!

It's really nice to have a piece where people who were actually around Prince and MJ are being quoted. It gives an interesting picture of their relationship.

Did you use most of what you received or do you have more cool information? (not expecting any of that to be shared). I'm also curious about how you contacted everyone?

Again, great job! How I would have loved to see these two men hanging out.

.
