I wanna buy this, but I'm still trying to decide if I should hold for the box set, which includes all five Heatwave albums.I really like those mini-LP replica CDs.

I can tell you the sound quality of this 2fer is superb. I'm hearing instrumentation I never heard before in these songs. They really did an excellent job. Though I can understand the appeal of that box set.

I'm wondering if the box set is a limited edition thing.I feel a sense of urgency because if it goes out of print,I'll hate myself for not ordering it now.

Your heart seems pretty set on wanting that box set with the mini LP sleeves. This "known" remastered 2fer is likely to be available for a while. Why not go ahead and invest in your hearts desire, and later you'll probably still have the opportunity to pick up this 2fer in the event the box set doesn't deliver what you expect. Because even if it turns out that the box set is not truly remastered, I'm sure it will sound better than the domestic reissues that have been out there for years, AND you'll have it in the cool format that you seem to really want.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind having that box set myself - I bet it's really cool. But for me, it seems more of a novelty, a collectible, whereas I'm more interested in the sound. And I'm also gambling on the expectation that if Heatwave's first 2 albums have been remastered in this 2fer, they'll likely get around to remastering the remaining Heatwave albums in this fashion, as I assume they'll see the benefit ($$$) of doing so.
Just as a side note regarding that "REMASTERED" title that gets thrown around; I also just recently purchased that Odyssey / Native New York...emastered) CD, and while it sounds great (particularly the 12" Disco Remix of "Native New Yorker") I don't particularly hear the separation of instruments like I hear in this Heatwave 2fer.
So my feeling is that there must be some wiggle-room in there for what can be called "remastered" (...like the "remastering" they did for the Prince "Ultimate" disc - not exactly what we were looking for). It seems to me that if a disc is truely remastered in the way we would want (from the original master tapes, and by a technician that knows what he's doing), the description of the product goes into great detail to indicate HOW the remastering was done, and the technician that handled the process (as they did in the liner notes of this Heatwave 2fer - PLUS, you really hear it). I don't see where they paid that kind of attention to that Heatwave box set, and not every outlet even described it as "remastered". And interestingly enough, I don't see any particular mention of the remastering process in the liner notes/booklet that came with this Odyssey CD either (nor do I particularly hear it), although it's prominently mentioned in the products main description . So it makes me wonder.
If you do go ahead and get the box set (which I suspect you might), I'd be interested in knowing if you find any mention of the remastering process in the liner notes of the box set, or if there even are any liner notes in that set, and if there are; if they'd even be in English, lol.

I have also bought the Heatwave 2fer cd and I like what I hear, but I aslo own the 2001 Jap cd edition of Heatwave`s "Current" and for me the Jap cd sounds even better then the 2fer.Quiet simply better resolution and even more details in the music.
So there´s no doubt in my mind that the forthcoming papper sleeve Heatwave cds will sound fantastic with 2010 DSD remastering with bonus tracks (see link). http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/p...il/3839844
At the moment there`s a lot of soul/funk cd reissues coming out in Japan. For example Sony Japan is releasing all of Cheryl Lynns Columbia lps in papper sleeve version(remastered).Sony is also doing many old Philly lps in papper sleeve versions and they sound fantastic imvho.
More cds on there way is Sugarfoot,Eugene Record `79,Sherrick,2x Marc Sadane all in SHM-cds versions plus 2x Rhythm Heritage.
It`s getting extremly expensive to keep up and it would be nice if they had been done in USA/UK instead(cheaper).
Just a little tip(see link).
