Disappointed with 'Hot Summer'? Check thís out!
I just heard 'Yamaha' by The-Dream and I love it!
It's got that 80's funksound that Prince used to do so well.
I wish Prince would've made something like this instead of 'Hot Summer'.

It's good (much better as an instrumental then vocally and lyrically).

I agree, although I do like the vocals. Lyrically it's not very special. But I love those long slow strings on those fast beats.

I like the song very much it sounds like a lost outtake from 1999.

-25 points for trying to write a song with no bass line. It worked ONCE; not again. -10 points for naming your song after a major Japanese corporation. Worst kind of musical product placement. You ain't slick, fool. -10 points for lame ass lyrics and a weak chorus (nevermind the fact that it sounds like a commercial)
Result: 55. FAIL.
Wait +5 for making a song at a tempo over smedium. 60. Still sucks.

I kinda like it, but it sounds half written to me. It drones on and on in something close to 'G' and never goes anywhere. I'm not a huge music theory guy but it's "unresolved" - it needs to jump to 'C' in the chorus to make us all happy.
The vocals sound cool though and I like the 80s sound to it.

if youthink this is so fantastic just because it has a Prince trademark Linn drum machine sound and a couple of synths you'd think that what i can dish up in 5 minutes is god's gift to mankind

That describes most of Dream's work. Synth pad ambience over beats. Not a lot of real chord changes or riffs, unlike authentic 80s output.

He already did. A long time ago. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

The fact that is stays in 'G' is exactly what I like about it. So many songwriters add chord changes to prevent that a song becomes boring, but often a song will just lose it's flow because of it. The fact that this one never becomes boring is a compliment to the production which keeps it funky and fresh from start to finish.
