I never bought ANY of Lionel's solo music and I sho' didn't listen to it. Sad, that the man reduced himself to creating drivel. I almost never make comments about people looks but he isn't an attractive looking guy either. Yeah, I'm in a bad mood. lol

I don't really think Lionel really sold his soul or anything. You guys may like/LOVE the Commodores funk stuff, but their ballads (for the most part) are what made them popular. Lionel was a big country music fan and it showed in his songwriting at the time.

By the time he went solo, he did what he (and James Carmichael) felt was right. You guys can diss his ST album and CSD, but they are really good and solid albums. DOTC wasn't that great of an album to me, but it did have some good songs. "Love Will Conquor All" is a damn-near perfection to me (even if it is "Love Will Find A Way"'s first cousin).

No one's hating on that era really. It's understandable he went downhill after "Dancing on the Ceiling" though. lol Like I said the '80s Lionel was way better than today's Lionel. That's all I'm saying. It's like he really is trying to kiss the devil's ring now like...lol

I can't stand "All Night Long" .

I don't own any Lionel Richie's music.

I don't listen to any Lionel Richie's music.

I've never watched any of his videos' including the ones posted here.

Have I made myself clear? lol

I want nothing to do with corny ass Richie unless, he's doing something with the Commodores. That ain't happin'.....

and to add on:

Could his solo stuff actually work for The Commodores? hmmm

Then the whole band would've been known as sell outs lol

I agree! Their last album 2gether was more "pop" than their previous efforts. They did manage to get 2 of their biggest hits on the "In The Pocket" album. "Lady, You Bring Me Up" and "Oh No". Both pop hits.

So, to answer your question...I think if LR is one, the rest of the band has to be included in that.

Now....

I Will fully admit i have always liked Lionel Richie but only became a huge fan in the last year

But i got Lionel, Can't Slow Down & Dancing On The Ceiling

GREAT ALBUMS! I mean classic=]

besides the hits on the albums other song's i loved

Serves you right is a funky little gem, Just put some love in my heart is a gorgeous ballad

Can't Slow Down is a rocking slow song with fantastic vocals, Tonight will be alright with Eric Clapton is epic & Deep River Woman sound's like an awesome classic rock diddy & Night Train is one of my favorite Lionel track's just killer

I Picked up his new album for cheap and it was just............... BAD

There was not one song i thought was a standout his voice is still great but man...... the album was just bad

So after this i picked up coming home I Call It Love is a sweet little song i like it & What You Are was a great track besides that the rest was very mediocre

I Also listened to part of Renaissance and wasn't impressed...

I Love his trilogy of albums in the 80's there incredible work i love them! and Lionel i had such high hopes for the rest of his cd's but... i have just been dissapointed.

Are any of his other albums i haven't mentioned even worth it?

all i can say is "Nicole happened!"

I wonder if Nicoles life would have been any different for the "better" if she was in fact cared for by her biological family the Escavedo family. I still don't know why that Escavedo, nor Nicoles mother wanted to just let her go to Lionel. Nicole was like a drunk, heroin addict, club hooligan all before the age of 20. Then she became anorexic. What the hell was Lionel doing touring? Did the divorce of he and his 1st wife (which would have been equivalent to Nicoles mother) cause Nicole to go off the deep end or something?

It "appears" that she has finally gotten her life together. Cut Paris off, got married, had a baby etc. But for a while I thought that girl was heading down death's highway while going over an oil slick.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I ran into Lionel in this building in Hollywood where I go to the Doctor at about a year ago......I'm not going to say anything else about that.

But Lionel was the best balladeer in the eighties. He was basically pushed to the front of The Commodores. His ballads caught on. Some people are meant to be in the front & meant to be mega stars.....

I love Dancing On The Ceiling, more than Can't Slow Down, but both have special places in my soul.

To SoulAlive: "Say You Say Me" was just a movie track. Hollywood loves schmaltzy, esp in the 80's. The real gem on DOTC is "Night Train (Smooth Alligator)".

Dancing On The Ceiling is awful. You guys always talk about artist who should retire. Well Lionel is one of them. When you go back and listen to the stuff he did with the Commodores and you listen to the crossover crap it is just sad!!! He crossed over so far he could not manage to come back to any genre with decent music or lyrics.

Are u referring to the song or the album? The album is not awful, but it doesn't compare to "Can't Slow Down".

What I don't get is why people compare Lionel's solo work to his Commodores work. They are 2 different bodies of work. When Lionel was with the group, he was only a contributor, but when he went solo, he did HIS kind of music. Most of the songs on the Commodores albums are co-written by Lionel. We don't know if he wrote the lyrics or what.

I am the first to admit that some of Lionel's solo work is not that great (especially Rennaissance and Just For You), but he has done some really good pop albums. Maybe Lionel realized that he was a pop artist and not really an r&b artist?

Here's the thing: I don't mind the schamltzy stuff that Lionel did when he was in the Commodores."Three Times A Lady";...cool song."Oh No".....I like it music The other guys came up with some funky jams to balance it all out.Albums like "Midnight Magic" and "In The Pocket" blended the two styles and it worked.

Yeah, but even they went pop without Lionel with Going To The Bank, Nightshift and some sappy slow tune that was worst than Three Times A Lady

Can't recall the name of the tune right now hmmm
