Chuckii Booker has been the musical-director on one of his latest tours. Not shure though if he also worked on studio-tracks for Lionel.

I know he did the Christmas cd Lionel did for Target a few years ago. It was HORRIBLE!

I still makes no damn sense how Can't Slow Down won Album of the Year at the Grammys over Purple Rain.

C'mon, man!!!

Don't get me wrong, it was a great album, but it didn't have nearly the impact that Purple Rain had then, and continues to have now.

To me, that's as big a blunder as Jethro Tull winning best Metal Grammy over Metallica.

Prince was considered too edgy at the time which is the only reason I can see why Lionel won. shrug

Maybe so, but you must remember that Lionel was the "veteran" compared to Prince. Sure, P had been in the game for a while, but not 20 years (or so) at the time. Album of the year tends to go to the veterans. George Michael and Lauryn Hill are 2 exceptions I can think of where they hadn't been in the business that long for them to achieve that title.

Also, P was kind of seen as a "freak" or "obscure" at the time and Lionel was the album that the entire household could listen to.

Lionel is what he always was. He is the Dennis DeYoung of the Commodores, meaning, he could write a funky song and do one, but once he clicked with the ballad (ala Dennis Deyoung of Styx) he became a One trick Pony (however Dennis is light years better at doing records still) but thats Lionel's thing, and really without a band that is all he can do, and he does do it well when he IS ON HIS OWN, i dont need ballads by ne-yo, what the fuck is that Lionel??? No 17 year olds are feeling you or going to feel you, so lose ne-yo and akon and now pitbull (WHAT ARE YOU DOING?)

Lionel had a much broader audience than Prince. Yeah, they both had fans of every race but Lionel had fans that Prince didn't.....softball moms driving their little girls in station wagons. barf

Ok, I've seen and heard enough. I wanna get up off of this couch and feverishly shake all of they shyd out of you all:excited: . I can't believe that yall are essentially "robbing" Lionel of his "props" because he did mainstream music and ballads. I mean "Dancing on the Ceiling" was not all of that climatic but it was a "fun song" for the time. What about "All Night Long"? And I can't believe that at least one of you didn't like "Hello". What about "We are the World"?

Booooo @ you yall! bitchfight

Hey it woulda been great for Lionel to show us that he still had the Funk in him. But maybe the reall Funk came from other members of the Comodores. Maybe Lionel was always just a lyric writer and played instruments. Maybe he was the least Funk essential of the group. So...when he left the group he "went for what he knew". Yall gonna have Lionel doing a Lil Richard up in this piece talking about he's been robbed.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

'Dancing On The Celiing' is when I started to lose interest in Lionel. He became too "pop" with that album. The title track and its video is embarassing disbelief One of the WORST songs of the 80s! "Say You,Say Me" is schmaltzy 80s pop CRAP.

"Love Will Conquer All" is the bomb!!! One of my favorite Lionel songs.

sooooo true, but again, some of his 90's stuff was good too. Lately though, 'I Call It Love' is by far the best thing that he's put out in the last ten years.

Yes i must agree on that he made a great album but no where near the record Purple Rain is.

And even if Purple Rain didn't win Born In The U.S.A would be second to win for me

That's the best song on that album. But even so,it's basically just a rip-off of the superior "Love Will Find A Way" from 'Can't Slow Down'.

This is Lionel's best song as a solo artist music music It's so damn soulful! It actually sounds like something you would find on a Frankie Beverly and Maze album. It's too bad that Lionel didn't continue to make soulful gems like this.

I like some of his solo work, mainly his first album which I still play a lot. "Wandering Stranger" off of that album is one of my favourite songs of his.

http://www.youtube.com/wa...JUIjGBz7ZY

"All Night Long" is a very good song too, but "Dancing On The Ceiling"... yikes! eek

His "Time" album wasn't bad either, especially the title track. Anything after that ("Renaissance" and onwards) just sucked though.

I like his first solo album."You Are" is the gem on that album music I also like "Serves You Right","Tell Me","Round And Round" and "You Mean More To Me" (yeah,it's schmaltzy, but in a good way).

I like the next album 'Can't Slow Down' even more.It showed alot of artistic growth and the production is flawless.Someone mentioned that "Stuck On You" is a horrible song, but I think it's one of his best country/pop-styled tunes.

'Dancing On The Ceiling' is where he went wrong, imo.I still can't get over how lousy the title track is disbelief It's not only his worst song,it's one of the worst songs of the 80s.
