Tupac Shakur's 1995 track "Dear Mama" has been inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry, along with works by 25 other artists.

According to the terms of 2000's National Recording Preservation Act, the content considered for preservation must be 10 years old and have cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance. Nominations were gathered by public submission online and from National Recording Preservation Board members.

"Dear Mama" is described by the National Recording Registry as a "moving and eloquent homage to both his own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference."

There are now 300 recordings in the National Recording Registry. Librarian of Congress James H. Billington assures that the Library of Congress' Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation in Culpeper, Virginia will give the public access to recordings and maintain them.

Other recent inductees include R.E.M, Willie Nelson and the 1959 original cast album of Gypsy.

Some threads that are posted that don't get replied sometimes dropped to the list thus making it hard for some to find the thread. smile I know some folks here including me have had that problem so it's OK. smile

Nice. I never really dug his music but I like this particular song very much. He was a great man but he hung around with the wrong people.

Are there any other rappers in the library of congress?

OK . Thanks.

Is it of huge importance? Is it somethinglike the Smithsonian?

As far as I know, yes. It preserves important stuff. Stuff that is considered iconic.

But has it been added to Obama's iPod? That's the question!

Good to see this getting added. biggrin I always thought this and Keep Ya Head Up were his best songs.

(I liked 2Pac better when he was eloquently supporting women rather than crassly leering at them.)
