I was watching this movie last week. I've always loved the song "Car Wash" but had forgotten how much other great stuff is on the album too. One of my favorites is "You Got To Believe Something" by The Pointer Sisters.
Such a keeper, this movie (and my cousin, who was a dj in LA at the time, is the AM radio voice in the movie! )! It always pissed me off, though, that sometimes when I saw it on tv, Antonio Fargas' part was somehow erased as if he wasn't even in the movie! Anyone else notice that?

Hell yeah. I kept thinking "some homophobes edit that shit". I didn't see what was so offensive about Antonio's part at all. He was brilliant in it!

Ya know? You MUST be right about the editors! So silly.......

This used to come on BET and TV ONE. The film has some hysterical moments but the soundtrack is the best part of the movie. The dude with the really big fro and Bill Duke are such memorable characters almost polar opposites (the serious pro black vs. the trendy care free brotha).
Daddy Rich and the Pointer Sisters!!!!
"Ya got to believe in sumthin'....why not believe in me!"

The big Fro dude was Franklyn Ajaye. I saw him on "Comic View" a few years ago.
I wish the director's cut/expanded edition gets released soon.
I remember watching the film on BET and it was NOT the same as the one in the DVD(who I think is severely edited).
Does anybody remember...
1. The Danny Devito scene?
2. The ending scene when Marsha got stood up by the blonde guy?
I know there're many scenes that were left off from the DVD, I can't remember the rest.
I've never seen those scenes. I had only seen the movie on TV until recently when I was in Walmart and bought a 2 DVD set that included "Car Wash", "Which Way Is Up", "Bustin' Loose", and "Brewster's Millions" for 15 dollars. Those scenes aren't included on that DVD either.

Yes he has frosted gray dreads now but still looks the same.

You mean, "The Fly".....bzzz.....bzzz.
"Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"
The scene where the old man is chasing Franklin's character cuz he stole the old guy's bag is too much. They thought it was a bomb and it turned out to be a bottle of urine!!!

I remember Danny Devito. He and Brooke Adams had that food trailer which mysteriously disappeared from later versions of the movie. Also remember Marsha but I remember her with the fat guy. Remember Floyd and Lloyd dancing in the locker room? So much good stuff that I don't think I want to buy it unless it's complete. BTW, the guy that played Geronimo got killed by the police in Cali under some strange circumstances a few years later as I recall.

The Car Wash movie, album, and song rank among my top remembered treasures of childhood in the 70s--and today they are all just as great! So many great characters in the movie--Richard Pryor--LMAO!
For so many years,I was confused about the "missing scenes".I remember seeing the film in theatres back in 1977,but when they show it on TV,there are alot of scenes that weren't in the original film If you have the DVD,you have the original theatrical version, but it's missing ALOT of scenes, like this one...
In the "TV version" ,we find out that Marsha's "date" played a cruel trick on her. This heartbreaking scene was NOT in the original theatrical version.
I wish the director's cut/expanded edition gets released soon.

Say what???
I've never seen those scenes.I've seen it on swedish television.I bought the VHS in London
and now I have the DVD I bought in Sweden.I've watched this film so many times.
I discovered it when collecting Rose Royce LP's and bought the soundtrack.
It's one of my top 5 all time feel good movies I can watch over and over
along with "Purple Rain" and "The last dragon" .

Manki, the DVD contains the original version of the film that was shown in theatres back in 1976/77.
However, when they show this film on TV,there are ALOT of additional scenes. You'd be shocked at all the footage you never saw before! A young, unknown Danny Devito appears in it,with alot of scenes. His character owns a hamburger joint across the street from the car wash.He spends the entire film arguing with his girlfriend. He's the "jealous type" and they get into a huge argument.By the end of the movie, they kiss and make up.

I think the version they showed on swedish TV is not the same as the american TV.

It's hard to hear the audio in this scene,so let me explain what's going on.Earlier in the film,Marsha meets her Prince Charming. He tells her that he will come back and pick her up at 6:00 (when the car wash closes). She thinks she is going on a date with him. However,he arrives with his OWN date (!) and his nerdy-looking friend which will be Marsha's date for the night "Prince Charming" was just using Marsha,to set her up with his loser friend.
Some early DVD and VHS versions of this movie have an alternate ending from the original theatrical release. The original version has Marsha the cashier being picked up by her "hot date," but when she walks out, her "date" is sitting with his girlfriend in the front seat while Marsha's actual date is seated in the back of the white 1975 Buick LeSabre convertible. She realizes she was chosen as a blind date.
