Brandy Reportedly Signs With Island Def Jam

June 22, 2010

Various sources are reporting that Brandy has signed a new deal with Def Jam Records. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, the former Moesha star admitted that she was looking for a "new team" to help her meet her musical goals.

"At this stage in my career, I want to go all around the world and share my music with everybody but I can't do that without the right team," Brandy said in the interview.

She adds: "I think at this point, where the music industry is, you get afraid to spend more money[on promotion]. . .. I just feel like for me, I just really wanted to win. I still want to win, but that's just not the way the universe works sometimes."

In a recent interview with a New York radio station, The-Dream, who is involved in management at Island Def Jam, confirmed that Brandy would be joining their artist roster along with J. Holiday.

Here's hoping that this label gives her a little more support. Human was an amazing album...one of my faves from 2008, but without support it just kinda went nowhere.

I thought Human was horrible. I don't know what it was, but I just couldn't get into it. Especially comparing it to her previous work.

I hope this project does well. B is just going to have to branch out and work with someone other than Rodney Jerkins. Rodney is so done.

Keith Crouch would be perfect. He was money on her first album and Ray J's.

Somehow or another i see her working with the likes of The Dream or Neyo.

If i had a preference i could probably tolerate Neyo moreso than the rest of these modern

producers.

I totally agree with u.

Her stuff with Keith was SO DAMN GOOD! The stuff she did on Never Say Never was good with Rodney, but the rest of his stuff has sucked balls.

Agreed. I liked it a lot. Brandy seems incapable of making a bad album.

It isn't really the Def Jam of old that it once was since the merger with Island. I'm not even sure the brands put together make sense. It's just once of the only major labels left to sign with.

Somone said that they sign the flops....who were the flops before Brandy? hmm

I love Brandy, I think she wasted her talent...The problem is the choices of songs ..her choices are dull ...what she needs is strong material.

Technically it's not wrong anyway. Def Scam didn't promote "Discipline" at all, you know that by now right, midiscover. That's all I meant. lol Plus we know how Virgin treated "20 YO". lol

I think LL Cool J also left Def Scam for the reason that they just wouldn't promote his work. I think that was around the time L.A. had signed Jay to head Def Scam's original hip-hop roster.

Whenever I say people flop I don't say it to the fault of the ARTIST, it's mainly because labels don't know how to or don't want to promote that artist. The multi-million dollar contracts are basically tricks to get you to think they trust you enough to produce something great and then if things don't work out with singles or something happens between the artist and whoever helped in releasing it ran into bad communications which leads to projects "flopping".

Brandy has ran into that problem numerous times as have OTHER artists. No one is immune to a flop.

I just don't see a bright light for Brandy right now because of this. shrug
