Yes
After Damita Jo did poorly. She let JD take control over her next project. I assume she expected an album just as successful as Emancipation of a KFC addict. Little did she know he was trying to make her over in to some Hip-Hop princess. Ugh!
Discipline was just a waste of time. She did nothing but provide her vocals and she let LA Reid and JD control the whole project. You can tell she was uncomfortable with the album. Every time she was asked about it her eyes got all big and she stuttered. Even the whole concept of the album didn't make sense.
Thank you. I don't recognize these albums as Janet projects at all. Kept saying the girl was uninterested in making albums at that time and she was only doing them for label purposes (20 YO to get out of Virgin and Discipline because of an argument between her and L.A. Shady). Record industry politics can do that to you.

Wow, didn't realise any of that was happening behind the scenes. Maybe I'm just a little naive but she's Janet Jackson! I don't understand why everyone was in panic mode because one album flopped, I thought the iconic artists (eg Madonna, Mariah, MJ etc) could get away with that. |

It don't matter if you're a rookie artist or a legend, record industry politics will always fuck with ya. It don't care about your status. It only cares about money and if you're not making profit, your ass is grass according to corporate labels. |

I don't think she really has an overrated album. Underrated, yes. |

I've never been too fond of "Son of a Gun" anyway, I'm not surprised it did flop. She was capable of much more than that single, not that it sounded horrible, but it was more of like a "my husband cheated on me so let me vent" song...something other female artists put out every week. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

It isn't a bad song, but I don't think it was a good single choice. I would have preferred 'Feels So Right' instead...love that song. My favorite line in 'Son of a Gun' has to be: 'Stupid bitch in my beach house'...classic Prince Rogers Nelson
