Was anybody digging Chris Brown's BET Award Performance tonight. I thought he did a very good job on that Michael Jackson Tribute. The emotional breakdown at the end sealed the deal for me and made him "forgiveable". Best of wishes with your comeback and sustainability Chris Brown.

Wasn't feeling it. I think he's taking advantage of the fact that so many people miss MJ to try and make himself look better.

I think that he would have been the #1 pick to do MJ tribute at the last BET awards but that whole domestic violence fiasco was so new, even BET wouldn't risk putting him out there to do Michael. I'm usually a tough cookie, but I guess I "want" to believe that there was some degree of sincerety in that emotional melt down on the stage. He wants to be forgiven. However horrible that situation was, I have to remind myself that he was only 19 years old at the time. I hope that he's not a young "Ike Turner", and I don't want him to turn into one...so he needs forgiveness and a second chance. February will make 2 years.

^^ Chris Brown did a good job. Hopefully now he can hang up doing an MJ set in his shows. One interesting part was seeing him lipsynch Michael's parts during Remember the Time, Smooth Criminal etc - didn't see the reason for that.

Have to say I loved that the audience jumped in with singing Man In The Mirror - that crowd missed MJ like we all do.

Gone Too Soon - The Ian Helperin documentary.

Gone too soon just aired here in Australia (the complete version) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The film is respectful, honest and paints for the most part a positive impression of Michael. It wasn't overly salacious as I thought it would be, but tempered with an open and objective point of view. There was no mention of Michael being gay (a salacious point that is a blip in the biography he wrote last year), and the documentary made more of an attempt to understand Michael, what he had been through, and what lay ahead for him.

Halperin uses a few "tabloid" techniques (going "undercover", or shooting a piece from the ambulance that Michael was transported to hospital in) and sometimes presents people with an allusion that they knew Michael without giving real context but he reiterates his belief that Michael was innocent of both abuse allegations and criticises the media that failed to present the facts.

Even when discussing Michael's kids he balances the obvious curiosity about the kids parentage and even alludes to who he thinks fathered them, but in the same breath he says whether or not Michael is their biological father is irrelevant as Michael WAS their father, and a good one at that.

His finally summary gives you an overview of the show, but I would recommend seeing it if you have the opportunity.

"There was a time when I condemned Michael Jackson because I didn't really know who he was, because I didn't really know the true story. After 5 years of piecing it all together, I finally understand what the world has lost. Rest In Peace Michael Jackson"

~~~ did anyone else watch this? Be interested to see other's views who sat through and watched it all ~~~
You know the crowd jumping in and singing for Chris when he had his emotional meltdown, made me think that they were "supporting him" and kind of "picking up his slack and wrapping their arms around him through because the song had to be completed regardless of the meltdown. Just my opinion.
We Had Him by Maya Angelou
Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing, now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips like a puff of summer wind.
Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace. Sing our songs among the stars and walk our dances across the face of the moon.
In the instant that Michael is gone, we know nothing. No clocks can tell time. No oceans can rush our tides with the abrupt absence of our treasure.
Though we are many, each of us is achingly alone, piercingly alone.
Only when we confess our confusion can we remember that he was a gift to us and we did have him.
He came to us from the creator, trailing creativity in abundance.
Despite the anguish, his life was sheathed in mother love, family love, and survived and did more than that.
He thrived with passion and compassion, humor and style. We had him whether we know who he was or did not know, he was ours and we were his.
We had him, beautiful, delighting our eyes.
His hat, aslant over his brow, and took a pose on his toes for all of us.
And we laughed and stomped our feet for him.
We were enchanted with his passion because he held nothing. He gave us all he had been given.
Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower, in Ghana's Black Star Square.
In Johannesburg and Pittsburgh, in Birmingham, Alabama, and Birmingham, England
We are missing Michael.
But we do know we had him, and we are the world.
While I do like Deepak Chopra, he and his son became media whores right after Michael died.
Appearing on any TV station that would listen to them.
Perhaps they had alot to say, but if I had a friend who gave me $5,000 dollars to have a good time in New York, because he couldn't.
Wouldn't you know that I would remember this and respect this time of sadness.
At this point I lost all respect for Deepak.
Well this is interesting. Did MJ give this guy Angel Dust? Unexpected....but hey, you never know
http://www.bigissuescotla...s/view/304
from an interview with Mark Mothersbaugh, the singer from the band DEVO.
If you want to read the whole article, it's at that link.
----------------------------------------------------------
“The only time in my life I smoked angel dust was by accident and it was on a double date with Andy Warhol and Michael Jackson,” laughs Mothersbaugh. “We all went to Studio 54 and people were passing drugs all over the place.
“Michael Jackson had just finished doing the movie The Wiz and still looked like Michael Jackson back then – he had an Afro and he was still black. He passed me a joint and I thought, well OK, we don’t have marijuana in Ohio so I’ll try it.”
Minutes later Mothersbaugh found himself on the dancefloor as pillars of light were swirling around “like weedcutters” knocking people over and cutting them up. He turned to his date in horror, only to hear her say: “You didn’t smoke any of that angel dust did you?
I think that some of MJ's fans are losing respect for Deepak because he is telling them things that they don't want to here. They'd rather go on believing that MJ was some sort of a God and had "Magic". But in reality he was a TREMENDOUSLY flawed human being, and his emotional and psychological development was ARRESTED. That does not mean that he wasn't giving and compassionate, and funny, and probably nice when he felt secure around y ou. But there were big flaws which ultimately led to his demise.
No, people should not have been mean to Michael and treated him the way they did, but some of that treatment (though completely unjustified) came from what they were actually seeing Michael do. I mean i completely get the Vitiligro and the need for surgery to lighten your skin. But when you chisle your nose down to a stump, and put a cleft into your chin, and chistle out your jawbone....and become UNRECOGNIZABLE....people are going to talk.
The only thing that MJ really had going for him was his genius in the area of Music and showmanship. The rest were flaws that were left to their own devices and became MONSTERS.....MONSTERS that actually ended his life. Thanks Joe Jackson.
Not all of us think he was some god and magical. Some of us simply think he was a good person who had a lot to endure. It's not that we're in denial and that we're mad at Deepak for things he said, but the fact that he was jumping on every tv show doing interviews shortly after the news that Michael died made people lose respect along with alot of other people.
Case in point, Joe Jackson's lawyer Brian Oxman running through the crowds with a sly smile on his face to do an interview with CNN saying that the autopsy was gonna be the biggest thing since Anna Nicole's case but was real quiet when the autopsy said the complete opposite
or Uri Geller who was running on TV specials and even made his own
Schumley who published a book with transcripts of conversations he had with Michael (and also cut the part about Michael forgiving his father in his Oxford speech)
If Michael was an addict, fans would've accepted it, but with his death being the case of medical incompetence and not being taken care of properly and people from different reasons saying a range of things (from being an addict to being murdered for his assets), it's alot to understand
I wonder if anybody considered that perhaps it was "therapeutic" for Deepak to be able to discuss his thoughts and feelings about Michael. I mean he's always painted Michael in a good light, he only advised of his "human side". Heck...Bboy I'm sure when Michael first passed away you had "something" to say and probably to quite a few people. So you take Deepak, who will undoubtably get the press coming to him for answers seeing that he is a Spiritual Guru and was Michael's friend, of course he's going to speak out.
It's not like he taped Michael's private conversations and sold them to the media like that Jewish Rabbi did. He merely stated what a good person Michael was, he stated how he did not by any means believed that Michael molested any children, and he stated that Michael had a bunch of unscrupleous doctors prescribing him tons of narcotics for hiim, and he admitted that MJ also approached him. ITo be honest, if it was not for Deepak validating the fact that MJ had vitiligro, I would probably still be pissed off about the whole skin lightening thing. In the wake of Michael's death, I can't understand for the life of me why this would be a problem for some. He said nothing exploitative or inflamatory....just what I believe to be the truth. So again, I think most people are shooting the messanger because of the message. If he appeared on every single show and ONLY spoke GREAT things about Michael, I'm sure that many people would absolutely have no problem with this.
Yes, MJ died from medical incompetence and unethical medical practitioners. But I believe that Michael ultimately made the decision to endure what i KNOW he had knowledge to be a risky medical procedure. As many surgeries as MJ had, he knew the risks of going under anesthesia. Everybody does. Yet he chose to engage in this opposed to seeking another way (ie. sleep labs, sleep deprivation clinics, addiction clinics etc.) It was Michael who lead to his own death with the aid of some Quacks. And that is the tradgic thing. We lost him because of him. Now, if he was somehow tied down and injected with somethng against his will...that would be another story all together. But you have his housekeepers reporting seeing IV supplies being set up and taken down each day at certain times.
Now media has it that Murray's defense will be that he left the room and Michael somehow reached over and "gave himself" more Proprofol than Murray agreed to. I think this is absolutely bullcrap, and if in fact that is Murray's defense, they should give him the harshest penalty in the book.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
My picks were absolutely pertinent and clearly show that you dismissed MANY things. When one only has one good thing for him/her, he/she is not exactly being painted as a good person, right?
Besides, that "TREMENDOUSLY flawed" bullshit can be applied to people like Joe or Jermaine Jackson. But...to Michael?
Get it, Reel? In the middle of how Diane Dimond would describe Michael you inserted that perhaps he was a giving and funny person. That's why I intervened and rightfully so.
You know I'm right but your opinions don't seem to be mutable, do they? That's the first sympton of a low IQ.
Anyway, I'll go back to the "residential facility" or to California 5051 where, actually, Michael should have been interned a long time ago, as you eloquentely suggested.
Ohh...and don't think you're "stewing my juices"! At the end of the day, I use some ad hominem to refresh my memory from you're enlightened arguments.
And let's not even discuss it, Ree-Ree: you're IQ is MUCH higher than anyone else's. Thank you so much for blessing me with some minutes of your life and sharing with this retard your amazing knowledge.
Besides, that "TREMENDOUSLY flawed" bullshit can be applied to people like Joe or Jermaine Jackson. But...to Michael?
Get it, Reel? In the middle of how Diane Dimond would describe Michael you inserted that perhaps he was a giving and funny person. That's why I intervened and rightfully so.
You know I'm right but your opinions don't seem to be mutable, do they? That's the first sympton of a low IQ.
Anyway, I'll go back to the "residential facility" or to California 5051 where, actually, Michael should have been interned a long time ago, as you eloquentely suggested.
Ohh...and don't think you're "stewing my juices"! At the end of the day, I use some ad hominem to refresh my memory from you're enlightened arguments.
And let's not even discuss it, Ree-Ree: you're IQ is MUCH higher than anyone else's. Thank you so much for blessing me with some minutes of your life and sharing with this retard your amazing knowledge.
Hey MOL,
Why don't you do yourself a favor, and skip over any text posted by "Reel". That way you don't have to risk another hospitalization.
My last response to your pathetic monologue is that YES perhaps a 5150 (not a 5051) would have indeed saved Michael's life. That way he would have had some "mandated intervention", medication and perhaps his insomnia would have been better addressed there. Next time you might want to consider all of the variables before you use them as sarcasm.
Ok, done with debating with the manic juvenilles.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
THE JACKSON 5: LIVE AT THE FORUM (2-CD)
THE JACKSON 5: LIVE AT THE FORUM (2-CD)
Item# B001440502
$39.99
Product Description
THE JACKSON 5: LIVE AT THE FORUM is a new 2-CD set that uncovers an amazing chapter from the phenomenal career of Michael Jackson and his brothers in the J5: their extraordinary performances from the Los Angeles Forum, recorded in June 1970 and August 1972—the first at the start of their rapid ascent to stardom, the second when they became established icons. These brilliant shows have not been released in any form until now, the 40th anniversary of the 1970 show.
LIVE AT THE FORUM features earth-shaking live performances of the group’s best-known hits – “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I’ll Be There,” “Never Can Say Goodbye” and more. Single B-sides “I Found That Girl” and “I’m So Happy” and such surprises as album cuts “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Zip A Dee Do Dah,” plus songs not released by the J5 at the time, including covers of James Brown’s “There Was a Time” and the Isley Brothers’ “It’s Your Thing,” are part of the shows. The 1972 show also features a full, fantastic set of Michael’s solo hits, including “Got To Be There” and “Ben,” his brand new single at the time, as well as a solo spot by Jermaine.
Disc 1 includes the Forum show recorded June 20, 1970, when the group broke existing box office records at the venue. The J5, with three consecutive No. 1 hits, were on their first national tour, and the show is a unique document of the growing “Jacksonmania” gripping the globe. You can hear their delight in performing; their talent and rapport is phenomenal. In a sweet moment also captured on tape, 11-year-old Michael pays tribute to Diana Ross, who’s in the audience.
Disc 2 was recorded August 26, 1972, just three days before Michael’s 14th birthday. It’s practically a greatest hits show, with every major track by the group, and solo Michael and Jermaine, up to that point. Of particular note on both discs is the band performance: the group’s vocals are backed simply and forcefully by Jermaine on bass, Tito on guitar, Ronnie Rancifer on keyboards and Johnny Jackson on drums.
Each disc includes a bonus track: an unreleased full live version of “Mama’s Pearl,” from the concert that became part of the 1971 TV special Goin’ Back To Indiana, closes Disc 1; “I Wanna Be Where You Are,” from the soundtrack album to Save The Children, makes its CD debut at the end of Disc 2.
LIVE AT THE FORUM is housed in a collector’s digi-pak with rare photos, collectable postcards of the individual J5 brothers, and insightful liner notes by Duke University professor, author and unabashed J5 fan Mark Anthony Neal.
While I do like Deepak Chopra, he and his son became media whores right after Michael died.
Appearing on any TV station that would listen to them.
Perhaps they had alot to say, but if I had a friend who gave me $5,000 dollars to have a good time in New York, because he couldn't.
Wouldn't you know that I would remember this and respect this time of sadness.
At this point I lost all respect for Deepak.
I think that some of MJ's fans are losing respect for Deepak because he is telling them things that they don't want to here. They'd rather go on believing that MJ was some sort of a God and had "Magic". But in reality he was a TREMENDOUSLY flawed human being, and his emotional and psychological development was ARRESTED. That does not mean that he wasn't giving and compassionate, and funny, and probably nice when he felt secure around y ou. But there were big flaws which ultimately led to his demise.
No, people should not have been mean to Michael and treated him the way they did, but some of that treatment (though completely unjustified) came from what they were actually seeing Michael do. I mean i completely get the Vitiligro and the need for surgery to lighten your skin. Not all of us think he was some god and magical. Some of us simply think he was a good person who had a lot to endure. It's not that we're in denial and that we're mad at Deepak for things he said, but the fact that he was jumping on every tv show doing interviews shortly after the news that Michael died made people lose respect along with alot of other people.
Case in point, Joe Jackson's lawyer Brian Oxman running through the crowds with a sly smile on his face to do an interview with CNN saying that the autopsy was gonna be the biggest thing since Anna Nicole's case but was real quiet when the autopsy said the complete opposite
or Uri Geller who was running on TV specials and even made his own
Schumley who published a book with transcripts of conversations he had with Michael (and also cut the part about Michael forgiving his father in his Oxford speech)
If Michael was an addict, fans would've accepted it, but with his death being the case of medical incompetence and not being taken care of properly and people from different reasons saying a range of things (from being an addict to being murdered for his assets), it's alot to understand
I wonder if anybody considered that perhaps it was "therapeutic" for Deepak to be able to discuss his thoughts and feelings about Michael. We deal with life the best way we know how. What a burden he had on his shoulders, like so many of us.
Not sure how you know that you are "much older than me". Not even sure that I even want to know but I am no where near 90 yet.
And I mean no offense by this, but even if you are "much older" than myself, that absolutely does NOT affect your ability to discern anything more than anyone else. I have seen people of all ages unable to "get it". So that statement really holds no water. We all know theres a saying that "there is no fool like an old fool", that statement implies that there are people "not up on their thinking game" of all ages, and the older fools are in particular are profoundly the worst ones. Again I mean no personal insult to you, I was just pointing out the incorrectness of the association that you made in your opening statement.
As far as Deepak giving "a few" television interviews is concerned.....uh since when is it wrong to give an interview about the King of Pop...ESPECIALLY if he was once your friend? Makes absolutely no sense to me why people have issue with that. That's like not wanting to give an interview about your relationship with Martin Luther King...really? That's not saying that Michael was of the same caliber as King, however they probably are as equally famous world-wide and "touched" almost an equal amount of people in one way or another.
Plastic surgery done by millions of people....yes! Done to the tragic "body dysmorphic" degee that Michael did it?.....Absolutely not.
Lastly, somebody that has "everything going for them" and "recognizes that", will seek out some sort of appropriate intervention to save their lives, and not just wallow in behavior that will ultimatley end their lives.
This is my assessment.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
So you take Deepak, who will undoubtably get the press coming to him for answers seeing that he is a Spiritual Guru and was Michael's friend, of course he's going to speak out.
It's not like he taped Michael's private conversations and sold them to the media like that Jewish Rabbi did. Yes, MJ died from medical incompetence and unethical medical practitioners. But I believe that Michael ultimately made the decision to endure what i KNOW he had knowledge to be a risky medical procedure. As many surgeries as MJ had, he knew the risks of going under anesthesia. Everybody does. Yet he chose to engage in this opposed to seeking another way (ie. sleep labs, sleep deprivation clinics, addiction clinics etc.) It was Michael who lead to his own death with the aid of some Quacks. And that is the tradgic thing. We lost him because of him. Now, if he was somehow tied down and injected with somethng against his will...that would be another story all together. But you have his housekeepers reporting seeing IV supplies being set up and taken down each day at certain times.
Now media has it that Murray's defense will be that he left the room and Michael somehow reached over and "gave himself" more Proprofol than Murray agreed to. I think this is absolutely bullcrap, and if in fact that is Murray's defense, they should give him the harshest penalty in the book.
Perhaps Deepak and his son should have spent some time in meditation before exploiting like everyone else, Michaels death.
We as fans understand all of the flaws that Michael had, and we also know what a giving person he was..
Unless we lived his life, or walked in his shoes we will never, never, know what he was going through.
"We as fans". You really can not speak for all of Michael's fans, because on this very board, and on this very thread there are people talking about "magic", and are all bent up as if they really perosnally knew the man. I won't be too specific about the postings because I don't want to make anyone feel bad. But there are people on this VERY BOARD who idolize Michael as if he was some sort of a god...and not like he was a freggin human being with talents like none other. SOME people on this thread and out in the world do not appear to be able to differentiate.
Hey, I never lived Michael's life. I'm sure that he was suffering a whole lot...not hard for one to see this. I'm not saying that I could have done any better if I were in his particular shoes from birth till death. But pathology is pathology no matter the causes, or who the pathological behavior is exhibited by.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
