Carole King & James Taylor Appreciation Thread

I've casually listened to both Carole King, and James Taylor, over the years. I know they're bigger hits, and can appreciate the stuff they've done.

However...

It wasn't until recently that I just found myself loving everything about them. Part of the catalyst for that was the Live At The Troubador DVD. They showed it on PBS as part of the telethon to raise money. I was just so taken by it all. I quickly downloaded the album to take a listen, and wasn't disappointed, of course.

I finally went out today, while finally finding a copy of Ebony, and picked up the CD/DVD combo pack. Such a beautiful set of people, group of songs, and show overall.

I had an LP of King's Tapestry, and have soaked it up all over again. It's just like rediscovering someone all over again. These guys have been making music, and writing songs for over 40 years, and are still putting out incredibly high quality material. More than I can say for other legendary artists.

The Troubadour show was filmed back in 2007 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary club. It sparked the CD, the DVD, and the resulting critically acclaimed tour going on right now.

They have a lot of history together in their songwriting and performing on each other's records, especially around the early 70's when King was writing Tapestry, and Taylor was doing Sweet Baby James. Amazing after all this time, still.

The amazing thing about the show is that they didn't leave the stage while the other did a song. They are both active and engaged in the other's song, playing, singing background vocals, or dueting. It's a great collaboration. Outside of the George Michael concert, it's one of the best music DVDs I've bought in years.

I wore Tapestry out in the 70s when I was a kid! Carole King was my songwriting heroine! Know every song on that album and, back when I had a decent voice, I could sing it pretty well, too! James Taylor ranked high on my playlist also. A voice as smooth as silk. He can be my "Handy Man" any day of the week! Great singing/songwriting duo. biggrin
