Gotta admit, I have been in sort of denial these last few days, not wanting to own up to the fact Garry is gone.
As an admittedly unfunky 42-year-old white man in the suburbs of Detroit that discovered P-Funk around the time of the CD revolution, I must say, all things P-Funk are really some of the most important music in my collection: then, now and forever. I just remember the thrill of discovering all this music the first time, rushing back to the record stores to buy the next batch of reissues or live compilations on AEM Records, or Clinton Family Series. The P-Funk became a full-time obsession, I spent so much time turning SO MANY people onto it. Most people embraced it just like I did. Truly magical. Digging the discs out and listening never gets old. Timeless stuff.
It is truly amazing what Garry meant to this group, cruising around YouTube really makes you realize HOW VERY MUCH Garry brought to the mic and the guitar EVERY NIGHT. His void is gonna be felt big time, what a very special man.
I miss "Sting" Ray Davis, too. Bringing those low vocal tones, and those fancy suits! Class Act.
REST IN PEACE, GARRY SHIDER.

It's funny.....having been a P-Funk fan since '77.....it was just this last week when the notion was presented here @ The Org that Funkadelic was realistically & appropriately GARRY'S BAND.
My memories of seeing them llive just further this conclusion. I have hope for the future of the P.....but a man like Garry Shider leaves some BIG shoes to fill.
I really do feel that Funkadelic (esp) was Garry's band. Funk Is It's Own Reward

Dag you beat me to the punch. I was just preparing to post this video. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Loved Parliment and Funkadelic....big fan. But the grown man wearing a diaper thing was a little too over the top for me. Oh well RIP Garry Shider. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

My sentiments exactly, but I figured there was no point in trying to explain. Not everyone here is interested in being enlightened, or able.

You can save the smug remarks. My opinion about a grown man parading around the stage in a diaper has nothing to do with my not being enlightened. I was a huge fan just like pretty much everyone posting on this thread. It's just a matter of taste thats all. There were other methods of being "over the top" than wearing a diaper. You are speaking as if that was the only way, and that if somehow someone was repulsed with the sight, they are somehow not "enlightened". To attack someone's ability to perceive because they are not a fan of a particular attire is a very weak, juvenile and "limited" tactic. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

From George Clinton:
"Garry was the heart of the group... always about making the whole ship better, and finding new ways to make it consistently run." "No creature in this world or any other can replace Garry Shider. He is virtually un-clonable."

Anyone who doesn't understand Garry Shider in a diaper simply doesn't understand P-Funk.
Sorry to come over so dogmatic. But it is true.
