Hmm, if that is what the original poster was referring to I am going to have to agree. I do recall some BS apology that Timberlake gave shortly afterwards and it was pretty stomach churning. Obviously he was much more interested in saving his own ass but he could have manned up and defended Janet at least a little bit.

I've had this experience with Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big). Met him a few years ago and he was a different person (not disrespectful, different), most likely because I've always had the image of him in the 90's and he's changed a lot since then..

In the past decade or so, a lot of new people have discovered him/heard his name through the net of course, and this sudden surge of popularity has somewhat changed him. He's not a dick or anything, but a lot more scripted, his way of talking has changed and almost as if he's on autopilot when he interacts with others. Basically the Paul of old felt like your old low-key friendly neighbor next door, where as the new Paul feels more corporate, in-demand and somewhat fake.

1. He used a racial AND sexual slur in GNR's most infamous classic Once In A Million. Even if Axl was writing lyrics only about the black folks & the gay in his home town and no where else, the very fact that he would say those slurs at the expense of ever offending Slash & his mother (who is a black woman) alone makes Axl a piece of trash, IMO.

2. Musically, his biggest mistake was at one time trying to turn GNR into a Nine Inch Nails-wannabe band. This did NOT fit well with any of the band members (especially Slash) that thought it was THE dumbest idea Axl ever came up with. Considering that GNR (especially with all 5 original members) were once consider one of the baddest rock/metal bands ever, Nine Inch Nails should have try to reach GNR's level, NOT the other way around. But no one (especially Slash) could tell Axl anything because he is a hard-headed selfish asshole.

IMO, not really. David Lee Roth can be a total dick at times. But as least he tries his best to go for a musically compromise (like having a change of heart about Eddie using a synth in the hit song Jump for example).

But trying to get a musically compromise out of Eddie Van Halen will most like get you put out of Van Halen the band (just ask poor Sammy Hager OR Michael Anthony!). Based on these specifics, I think Eddie is far worse than David.

Even if they're a nice person, they can never live up to the image you have in your head. No one could.

Living in Vancouver I run into famous types on a semi-regular basis, but I always look from afar. I'd rather have the fantasy of my heroes in my head than find out they're an asshole or they drink their coffee weird or something. And anyway, if it was me I wouldn't want some stranger coming up to me like we're best buddies while I'm just trying to go about my day.

I wouldn't have any illusions of Prince being someone I would want to hang out with or even have much to discuss with.
