Madonna should do a world music album

Duet with Gloria E, maybe a track with Sergio Mendes, maybe get down with Zap Mama; what about an Argentinian House sound, throw Mirwais back in the mix for some euro-french flavor, maybe bring back Isaac from the Confessions album/tour...thoughts?

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

You mean each song represents a different country? That'd be quite cool actually, she could dedicate each track to one of her kids

Virtually every country you could name has a musical history as extenive as America's, so the label "world music" is vague and possibly offensive.

I'd like to see her put a little more effort into her pop music than the last couple of albums before she tackles a world music concept album.

I'm a huge Madonna fan, but a world music album has no appeal to me. I could see her doing one song influenced by world music such as Isaac on Confessions, but a whole album of world music would not be something I would be interested in.

I think she is at her best doing more pop contemporary things.

My two dream ideas for her next album are 1) a slight rock influenced direction, not too hard but with electric guitars and real drums, maybe mixed in with some piano ballads or acoustic mid tempo things. Think Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood MAC mixed with Garbage with a little Tori, Fiona and Sheryl Crow.

2) If she wants to stay electronic, more of a down tempo trip hop influenced sound. Think Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Portishead etc.

A couple of exotic-sounding songs would be fine, but I don't know if I'd enjoy an entire album like that hmmm I'd like to see her do an amazing latin-flavored song,to make us forget about the horrendous "Spanish Lesson",lol.

Awhile back, there was a rumor that she is recording a song with an African sound,so who knows? Maybe this is the direction she will go in.

Yeah, that doesn't sound too exciting, does it? lol Years ago,I wanted Madonna to do a rock album but not anymore.I don't mind the occasional rock-flavored track (such as "I Love NY") but I think her rock music only works in small doses.

I'd like another pop album from her,but with more "serious" songs...not just "catch me on the floor" type lyrics.

a few months ago, this rumor was being discussed on the Madonna forums....

New rumor by Rukydee of Fanzine:

According to P-square the Nigerian afro-beat duo....they are crafting afro-rock sounds for madonna's next album.P-square have been a huge success on the african continent for the last decade with their African hip-hop sound blending it with afro beat rock sounds......this comes form p-square themselves who are currently on an African tour.

P-square have stated they are only co-writers and providing backing vocals to madonna's single which will appear on her next album.......and already have a sample of a sound submitted to them by a french-african producer who they failed to disclose under strict orders from madonna's camp .The sample is to guide the rhythm of their vocals and co-written bits....they have been rehearsing to morphed vocals of madonna singing to hard rock sound that sounds so masculine (auto controlled to sound male) her voice keeps switching from her usual voice to a man's voice ....they simply state that the record sounds '' very creative and ground breaking ''

Apparently David Guetta is half Moroccan.

hmmm

Just because some people don't like a rock flavored album doesn't mean it couldn't work if done with the right producer or co-writer. I'm not that crazy about the rock version of such as I Love NY, but that doesn't mean a rock sound couldn't work if done the right way.

I think Madonna needs to think outside of the box on her next album, and so do some of her fans and have an open mind. She said she doesn't like to keep doing the same thing and think in a limited way. I think she really needs to shake things up and that may include annoying some of her fans who are stuck in a rut in what they want her to do.

To me, saying you want pop songs but more serious songs is kind of an oxymoron. To me the best pop songs are fun and carefree, they aren't serious. For instance, I think the best pop song out there right now is California Gurls by Katy Perry, but if the same song was done with serious lyrics it wouldn't work as well.

I think if Madonna does want to deal with more serious issues and themes, doing a straight up pop sound just won't work.

Not sure I agree with that. Many of her best pop songs (imo) are the ones that have serious themes and lyrics: "Live To Tell","Like A Prayer","Miles Away",etc.

Was the term 'World Music' coined in the US?

What type of voice do you need to do world music? I don't associate world music with big voices and belting. World music is more about the rhythms.

I'm not big on World Music but one song I do love is 7 Seconds by Neneh Cherry and Youssou N'Dour. I don't think there's anything on a song like that Madonna couldn't sing.

Like I said, it might be nice if she did one song influenced by world music rhythms but definitely not a whole album.
