Maxwell Jill Scott Concert Reviews?

Has anyone on the board attended any of the shows?

I attended the show in Detroit last Saturday.
It was good. Jill was much better than I expected. I have never been to one of her concerts, so I was expecting her to be over-the-top with her singing, but thanking she wasn't. Sometimes she goes overboard when she extends or re-interprets her songs and I hate when she does that.

Maxwell put on a good show as always. His voice has recovered nicely from the last tour. Something was off though about his performance. I can't quite but my finger on why it felt off to me. Perhaps it was due to the stage. He is not using the Y shaped catwalk stage for this tour which was dissappointing. I enjoyed seeing him physically interact with the audience on the last tour, which he was able to do with the catwalk stage.

I viewed the concert from a skybox on the third level in the arena. I won't do that again. I think being so far up and away from the stage spoiled the experience a bit for me.

Lastly, he turned the sexual talk way down. I suspect he did that understanding that it was a double-billed show and many in attendance were Jill fans and not necessarily fans of his and would be put off by the raunchy talk that was apart of the last tour.

Overall it was a good show and I am glad I went. I just hope that the next time he tours and comes to Detroit that he will pick a smaller arena.

Thanks for the review. I was reading some on ticketmaster and kept reading that Max was off, Jill stole the show etc. I wanted to see if there are other thoughts from folks here b/c Ive seen the tour mentioned here. Im opting not to go as I saw him in 08 and dont care for Jill Scott. Thanks.

I'm going in Philly on June 19th... I'm really going because I love Jill, but I heard that Maxwell puts on a good show. I hope he's over being "off" by then since I've never seen him live. cool

I saw the show at Scottrade Center in St. Louis on May 29.

Fantastic all around, though, honestly I thought Jill Scott was better. Maxwell was still great, but he wasn't quite all that I expected. I can't really explain it. Jill's "show" was better, including her stage set up, and her band really kicked it. Again, not that Maxwell's band wasn't great too, but something was missing.

Really looking forward to Jill's new album. She sang a couple of songs from it that were really good.

I saw them in Milwaukee good show...My second time seeing Jill...she never dissapoints. Maxwell did good too...he just came on a half hour late and his set seemed shorter perhaps as a result of that.

My friend was just emailed that she tried to buy tickets from ticketmaster and the last dozen or so shows are canceled. Anyone know what's up with that?

Caught the show last night in Houston.

Jill Rocked it, however, that was my first time seeing her live.

This is my third time seeing maxwell live and i have to agree with an earlier observation that it seemed like something was missing. He rocked it but it didnt have that usual Maxwell. the show still kicked as tought.....it seemed like Max was trying to put out the same energy that jill rolled with.

pissed that it took him almost an hour to come on stage but it was cool. he didnt pull a complete essense on us.

the show is worth the ticket

We saw the show in Dallas on the 8th. Jill Scott was GREAT! We have seen both of them multiple times. But, she was definitely the truth! Maxwell was good but for some reason I didn't feel all of his show as in the past. I did enjoy the version of Cold and Help Somebody though. Again, Jill Scott was absolutely the highlight for me.

Sounds like something is amiss with Maxwell so perhaps its best that he canceled the last leg of the tour. Hope he is ok.

And some Maxwell fans may be a bit disappointed. He has rescheduled the entire last leg of his tour--anything after June 26 (New York, NY) is now postponed.
