Just curious-was there ever beef between Donna Summer and Diana Ross? Donna was the Queen of Disco and Diana the reigning RnB queen. I mean Diana did disco, but she wasn't the queen of that genre and knowing Diana, I can't see her being pleased at Donna burning up the charts on her watch. So, school me! If I am wrong let me know, but was there beef? I got the popcorn ready!! "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

There were some rumor that Donna and either Mariah or Diana getting into some difficulty during the rehearsal of "Stop in the Name of Love" for Diana's tribute thing but who knows because Donna and Diana hugged and embraced each other at the end of "Divas" and Donna was influenced by Diana.

Never heard of any beef between Diana and Donna but I did hear that there was one between Diana and Tina. I remember reading Tina snubbed Diane backstage during the 1985 Grammy Awards supposedly because Diana was one of the people who turned her back on Tina after she left Ike. That was Mimi & Donna during the VH-1's Divas special. Mimi took all the space backstage including Donna's, and Donna didn't take it laying down.
The same scuffle happend between Mimi & Shirley Bassey in one of the UK awards. And I love how Diane tried to put Mimi on the spot during the "Stop! In The Name Of Love"
And good for Tina | |

Nope, there was never any beef between Donna and Diana. There's always been some friendly competition between them.Back in the day, people would often get their names mixed up.
"Hey,did you hear that great new song by Diana Summers?"
Some people have suggested that Diana's 1976 smash "Love Hangover",with its breathy moans at the beginning, was inspired by Donna's "Love To Love You Baby".
They got along really well at that VH-1 Divas show,in which Diana was honored. The only real drama was between Donna and Mariah Carey.Donna arrived early and got settled in her dressing room, then the Queen Diva Mariah arrived and demanded that SHE be given the room that Donna was in

Mariah should be slapped. You don't disrespect your elders like that, esp a legend like Donna. I don't get the whole Diana and Tina thing. I wouldn't imagine that they ever knew each other-how did Diana turn her back on Tina? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

reminds me of that B Scott interview where she kept stressing that the little room they were in was NOT her dressing room

And it's not like Diana would ever have associated with those two-I am sure she considered them beneath her "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Tina's career hit rock bottom after the divorce and she was considered an "oldies act", I assume thats why Diane didn't wanna associate with her.

But did she associate with her before? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

LOL. I used to get that Diana Summers thing all of time in high school. As far as the VH1 drama goes, I haven't heard that story nor do I know if it's true. Donna and Diana are friends. Donna and Mariah? I don't know. Donna did end up singing in the medley, but she came out late. Why? I don't know. Maybe she rethought the situation if this story is true. LOL.

I'm not sure whether they were buddies or not but yes, Ike & Tina were touring on some of the same shows as some of the Motown acts. I remember reading in Gladys Knight's biography that she and Tina used to do shows together and they would help one another with their makeup. So, yes, I'm sure there was some association between Diana and Tina back in the 60's. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
