Eric Benet sings Chicago's "Look Away"
Kudo's to him for singing such a wimpy classic LOL. I dig the original, and whilst Eric's live performance was good, it makes me appreciate how good Bill Champlin's voice on the original was too.

The fact that Eric Benet could turn a wimpy song into a classic performance speaks to his noteworthy talent. The man knows how to deliver a song. Music is for lovers.

Iam not hatin' on him. I thought it was a good performance. It's cool he respects Diane Warren as a songwriter, as many people don't. I got his debut somewhere, need to pull it out again....

I could not stop thinking about Halle, during this song.... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

He use to date her? I had no idea. Ha, maybe he is singing to her then....

I'm hearing you. 'Just wanted to backup your statement on Eric Benet's musical prowess. Music is for lovers.

Eric Benet was married to Halle for 4 years. Some people say they still have family feelings for each other. Music is for lovers.

I love 80's Chicago, but this is a lesser track than other stuff they put out at the same time. Eric sang it quite well, but how well can you sing a weak track? He worked it for what it was worth.
I'd like to see him belt out "Stay The Night" or "Hard Habit To Break".

I just think it's cool he is singing a Diane Warren song at all. Alot of people hate her (well alot of music critics). I love another Warren penned Chicago tune called "chasin' the wind". Its a carbon copy of "look away" in feel, melody and even lead singer, but I still love it just the same LOL.

its the same reason people hate on Richard Marx,Air Supply, Bon Jovi, Barry Manilow etc....and yet when you do a thread on a manilow song or richard marx song, everyone is like oh i love that song. Theres a craft to writing a love song, people think its simple, but if it were than they would all do it and have hits nonstop, thats why they dont and have to cover them from others. To me those cats and the way they write is only part of their catalog and the reason they still go on, u cant go wrong with a love song, its something everyone can love and hate and identify with.
On a Chicago Note, everyone always talks about Peter Cetera, and this and that, but Jason Scheff his "replacement" celebrated his 25th year with the band. Chicago is going to be recording a new studio record later this year, i hope its all out band jam! Chicago's last album was pretty weak for me personally. Iam a fan of Jason Scheff aswell, but I do still like a couple of Peters solo albums though.
Diane is arguably the most succsessful songwriter in the US of all time. Certainly when it comes to chart hits, she is up there with Lennon/McCartney, Bacharach, Holland Dozier Holland, and yet she gets very little love when it comes to tv documentaries etc...

i agree totally on Chicago30 that was a very weak album to me too, i really want to see them just go all out and jam on a record, i mean we all know they can play, and toss in the ballads too, because its a big part of them too "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I liked what former member (and barely that) Dawayne Baily contributed on "Stone of Sisyphus". He co-wrote the 2 best songs off that album (one of them still not released), and yet they dropped him? Shame....
