One of my friends posted this on her facebook and after seeing it over here, I thought I would listen to it and I am amazed by all the praise over here.

It´s just boring.

And what´s up with his face? Is it just the hair or does he really look different?

It's like he's lost weight in his face, but I like his hair. That black/dark brown/whatever color is a 200% improvement from that blonde he used to wear, lol.

I was ready to hate since I've been so dissapointed in his stuff since like 2005 but this is great.

It's pretty obvious Slim Shady is dead now and the funny shit isn't gonna work any more. He needs to show off his talent not his fart jokes. Without Me was Slim Shady's peak, Lose Yourself was Eminem's. Now he can just get back to being (one of) the best with nothing to prove.

I'd like to see a freestyle between him and Jay Z.

I think Eminem would win that easily. Jay Z raps about nothing but his "black card," women's clothing stores, and yachts. lol

And Eminem raps about nothing but his "mental" issues, his exes, his mom and Hailey. Neither of them are the poster boys for substance.

Yep. Dull and predictable, his so-called 'controversy' is yawn inducing.

If you look on YouTube and listen to the other new album tracks I posted about on the previous page, you'll hear differently. lol He's rapping about all types of random/weird stuff, but amazingly sounds so coherent. Besides, I'd rather hear about Eminem's mental problems than all the useless garbage Jay-Z spends his money on, lol.

But if all you want is meaningful substance, which is cool, you'll have to listen to Lupe.

You know, it's always like that. It's alright.

Eminem is an acquired taste. Back during 1999-2003 and even now, of all the rap/hip-hop fans I know, there has never been a middle ground regarding feelings towards him. He's the type you either really like, or really disdain, LOL. lol

How in the hell is Eminem an acquired taste? Dude is the definition of "pop rapper" - made for the masses. He's been forced down everyone's throat since he came out. There are MANY rappers of substance and Lupe doesn't even make my list, as he's somewhat sub-par but has moments of greatness. Eminem, like Jay-Z, is skillful as a lyricist but on the whole, he ain't talkin' bout shit and I ain't feelin' that track that got posted.

The thing that set him apart back when he first started, is that he was entirely aware of his image and why he was becoming popular. He was a voice for all the teens/music lovers who didn't agree with the teen pop era going on back then and was a more realistic reflection of society at that time.

The Real Slim Shady is basically a step by step walkthrough of exactly why he's here and what he's trying to say:

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/eminem/therealslimshady.html

I'm like a head trip to listen to, cause I'm only givin you
things you joke about with your friends inside your living room
The only difference is I got the balls to say it
in front of y'all and I don't gotta be false or sugarcoated at all
I just get on the mic and spit it

And there's a million of us just like me
who cuss like me; who just don't give a fuck like me
who dress like me; walk, talk and act like me
and just might be the next best thing but not quite me!

The awareness of his image continues throughout his lyrics over the years:

And I am, whatever you say I am
If I wasn't, then why would I say I am?
In the paper, the news everyday I am
Radio won't even play my jam
Cause I am, whatever you say I am

who would have thought, standing in this mirror bleachin' my hair, with some peroxide,

Reaching for a t-shirt to wear, that I would catapult to the forefront of rap like this, how
Could I predict my words would have an impact like this, I must've struck a chord, with somebody
Up in the office, cause congress keeps telling me I ain't causin' nuthin' but problems, and now
They're sayin' I'm in trouble with the government, I'm lovin' it, I shoveled shit all my life,
And now I'm dumping it on white america

Look at these eyes, baby blue, baby just like yourself, if they were brown, Shady lose, Shady
Sits on the shelf, but Shady's cute, Shady knew, Shady's dimple's would help, make ladies swoon
Baby, look at my sales, let's do the math, if I was black, I would've sold half

until I met Dre, the only one to look past, gave me a chance, and I lit a fire up
Under his ass, helped him get back to the top, every fan black that I got, was probably his in
Exchange for every white fan that he's got, like damn, we just swapped, sittin' back lookin' at
Shit, wow, I'm like my skin is it starting to work to my benefit now, it's white america

A visionary, vision of scary
Could start a revolution, pollutin the airwaves
A rebel, so just let me revel and bask
in the fact that I got everyone kissin my ass
And it's a disaster, such a catastrophe
for you to see so damn much of my ass; you asked for me?
Well I'm back
Fix your bent antenna tune it in and then I'm gonna
enter in, endin up under your skin like a splinter
The center of attention, back for the winter
I'm interesting, the best thing since wrestling
Infesting in your kid's ears and nesting
Testing, attention please
Feel the tension, soon as someone mentions me
Here's my ten cents, my two cents is free
A nuisance, who sent? You sent for me?

No I'm not the first king of controversy
I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley
to do black music so selfishly
and used it to get myself wealthy
There's a concept that works
Twenty million other white rappers emerge
But no matter how many fish in the sea
It'll be so empty, without me

Eminem was at his strongest when examining his own rise to fame or just telling the truth. It wasn't the funny sound effects, the pop culture references or the wacky videos. It was the truth behind the joke. That no matter how many swear words he reeled off, people he offended, costumes he wore - everything he said was the cold, hard truth (of course I'm only talking about his singles here or his Slim Shady work, songs like "Kim" etc are different).

The only downfall was eventually trying to keep on doing the same thing and becoming a parody of himself, which is exactly what he did. He forgot the content and just became a joke artist.

I think what is making this new song garner popularity is that he's back to the honesty this time, even admitting the last album sucked. There's no real place for Slim Shady in music any more but Eminem could definitely go further with a new approach.

Love this dudes work. He has a brilliant mind and is able to tell a story so vividly. When ever I hear him I get completely immersed in his music and don't want to miss a word. Last release was a little disappointing, But even at his worst he is ahead of most hip hop artist at there best. Cool song and video...Can't wait to buy it.

Uh-oh....so he's becoming like Prince already? eek

I kid, I kid. giggle In "Talkin 2 Myself" he actually admits to experiencing writers block and only thinking of poor rhymes for a long time. I guess that's inevitable when you're a prolific lyricist, 'cause eventually there's nothing left to say. I mean, this is his, what, twelfth album? I'm not sure, but he's written/freestyled a lot, so if he sounds old-hat now, well, that just happens I guess. I don't feel that way about his new verses though. shrug Maybe it's because I've been away from his work for awhile, but his new stuff sounds awesome to me. Plus, I still like the actual sound/tone of his voice and his style of breaking up syllables.

Yes! I've been feeling that way, just like I used to. smile

And I agree that, yeah, he can be pretty brilliant at times. nod In these latest tracks, I've had to rewind and replay most of his lines repetitively, thinking: "Wow." As I've said before, he's very clever with words and themes in verses, in my opinion.

I don't consider Em to be a pop rapper anymore. He's kinda "dark" now. And not that fake Rihanna/Jay Z/Lady Gaga darkness, but seemingly real, he-sits-in-his-lowly-lit-basement-all-day-writing-lyrics-to-become-popular-again darkness, LOL. Therefore, to me, his image is quite different than it was in the late 90s when he was being played everywhere.

And of course, there are probably thousands of lyricists in the country/world who create meaningful rap songs. But I was thinking of current mainstream rappers, that's why I said Lupe. Every song Lupe releases contains a lesson of some sort, you know.

He is talking about going through hard times and asking his fans if they ever felt the same way....basically he is just talking about his road to whatever is recovery and his last album. More like an open journal.

I just heard clips of his album unfortunatly and it seems like he is very down to earth..there is not alot of "Slim Shady" stuff to listen to kind of like The Eminem Show. Im going to hold out on a actual review until I listen and buy the album.
