Terance Trent D'Arby - Vibrator

man I was working out today and out to the thousands of songs I have on my iPod I guess Vibrator was due up. I placed it on there probably last summer

What an great album... incredible funky and his vocals are just nuts... the ballad undeniably is just crazy beautiful easpecially with the jazzy interlude.

"Sooner or later you feel the spirit move ya... it will come down to this... Vibrator!"

Indeed... a great peice of art!

I play this cd at least once a week. My favorite is, "We don't spend that much time together"...

what a unique voice and great look

Vibrator was easily better than eanything Prince was doing during 1995... just as a collection a great set of songs

Gold Experience vs Vibrator and its Vibrator clearly by a knock out!

Ah yes. This is one of my favorites from TTD. It had everything. Loved the funk, the voice of course and those got damn ballads. Didn't this one have one of those Marsalis boys featured on a few sax solos? (I still have the tape, I haven't broke it out in years). Although he can be quite pretentious with his poetic side, it wasn't out of hand yet at this point in his career. cool Very cool record.

Purely on the basis of hearing this album praised here on The Org (one of several times)...

I checked this one out. Solid record (although I must admit, found some of it "underwhelming")

BUT....out of nowhere was the track "Resurrection" (next to last song on the album).

Amazing...FLOORED me. I just wiped the tears off & added it. TY yet again to The Org.

Fantastic album and a fantastic song. I prefer Symphony or Damn, but this is a close second.

I really dug all of TTD's albums - got where he was coming from. The whole Sananda Maitreya change has kept me listening but I still go back to those classic 4 TTD albums.

All solid - all varying in their feel and approach.

Glad to see some love on here.

I'd say the original downloadable Wildcard is worthy of his catalog. Then he released the bloated physical version and it's been downhill from there, IMHO.

Love the album, especially the ballads: "Holding On To You", "If You Go Before Me", "It´s Been Said" and, first of all "Undeniably" - pure greatness. Went to the Vibrator-tour in 1995 - great memories!

"Her face was my favorite magazine

Her body was my favorite book to read"

"The soil was fertile where her footsteps trod

She my new religion, she's all I got"

These were a couple of my favorite lines from "Holding On To You"

And "Undeniably" was just gorgeous. "Baptized by the fire in your eyes, I was mesmerized."

"We Don't Have That Much Time Together" was cool too.

I'm a sucker for sound musicianship and good songwriting. The song "Vibrator" was him keeping the funk alive and well in 1995. I'm sure James was proud.

When I heard Holding on to you again.... it was just like the 1st time I heard it... it made me want to well up.... just a great great ballad. I immediately thought of my wife. The breezy We don't have that much time together with its salsa bridge outstanding!

I would strongly encourage anyone who doesn't have TTD's Vibrator to go find it

Like I said earlier its a great peice of art. By the way Symphony or Damn was verys solid also Vibrator just seemed to have more swagger IMO

I thought as an album it was a bit inconsistent, but its high points are my favourite things that he's done so far. Holding On To You is probably one of my favourite songs of all time by any artist.

Great clip of HOTY here, let down only by the fact that the audio is out of sync.

There are a bunch of good performances here from a French TV show he did in 1995, promoting the album. Stevie Wonder was on there the same week (you see TTD dancing with Marva King, who was then singing backup for Stevie, during 'Superstition'), as Conversation Peace was out at the same time. I remember they interviewed them together, and Stevie said he was a fan and that he was going to be coming to one of TTD's concerts. "And if he doesn't play my song, [sings] siiiign your naaame across my heart... I'll beat him up!" What made me laugh was TTD, without missing a beat, came right back: "Yeah, right. The last time he tried to beat me up, he could see!" razz
