Mint Condition- "U Send Me Swingin'" vs. Tony! Toni! Toné!- "Anniversary"

Okay guys, it's another song battle here. The best male R&B bands of the 90's.

(Not counting TTT's debut album in the 80's) The 2nd 90's album from each of these bands (Sons of Soul & From The Mint Factory) had a smash hit 2nd single ballad that peaked at #2 on the Billboard R&B charts. Which song do you prefer? (Not comparing artists... we are comparing the two songs here.)

It's a good battle but I'm siding with Stokley and company on this one.

I gotta say "U Send Me Swingin" because of them gotdamned drums and synth bass lol If they pulled this out in a battle of the bands it would either win it or call it a draw if 3T pulled out "Waiting For You"

I don't think those two songs are a fair comparison....

I like both songs and both bands but if you were to say compare "U Send Me Swingin" vs. "Slow Wine" then that's a fair fight IMO. I still couldn't choose though.... shrug
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

With these 2 songs Imma have to choose Anniversary, because that joint was just to mellow.

However if you would have thrown up Forever in Your Eyes vs Anniversary then it would have to be Mint...

But let's say you make it a real battle and pit Forever In Your Eyes vs Whatever You Want eek

See this is a fair fight as well...in that case, I'd pick "Anniversary". nod

"Swingin" would DESTROY "Slow Wine" IMO. I think a song more suitable for a fair fight with "Slow Wine" would be" "10 Million Strong" or "Someone To Love"

That being said, the nine-minute version of "Anniversary" is a masterpiece IMHO:

Anniversary over You Send Me Swingin'; MINT over 3Ts by a longshot.
Mint had much better ballads IMO than YSMS.

Anniversary. TTT's body of work dwarfs Mint Condition's-- studio work atleast. Live, it's probably another story.

Live it's definitely a different story. I'd even take MC's studio work but to
the run of the mill New Jack Swing fan of the 90's i could understand why they
would pick the Tonies.

That comment does not make sense 2 me. Mint has more material on the market than TTT so how does TTT dwarf Mint? By what standard?

lol
Like i said the New Jack Swing fans appreciate the Tonies more
because some of their songs catered to it.

I can't stand New Jack Swing but I picked Anniversary because I simply like the melodic qualities of the song better AND because YSMS is middle-of-the-road for Mint. Even from that same CD, So Fine stomps all over both these tracks. Now I think Stokley delivered a better vocal performance than Raphael in comparison of the two songs and YSMS has more interesting arrangements but I think the melody of Anniversary is stronger.

I still dig the album version of Swingin but to listen to Mint
play it live it's like night and day. They actually speed up
the tempo to the song and you can actually see the audience
diggin it while swingin from side to side.

It's an Oakland thing homie (though I was born in Minnesota). I just couldn't get with some of that calypso sounding shit Mint put out. lol They had a few good cuts but let's not make them out to be more than they were-- in the studio. Like I said, live it's probably a different story.

Bottom line I think TTT has better songs, run of the mill or not.

OOHHH YYYYYESSSSS!!!! The last four and half minutes or so are heavenly. Like BklynBabe stated if it was "Forever In Your Eyes" vs "Anniversary," then I would vote for MC. Gotta give it up for the TTT across the bay.
