She's the first intelligent pop star with something to say in God knows how long. The raw smarts and ambition are what remind me of Madonna more than anything. GaGa is far ahead of where Madonna was at this point in her career (and is now) in terms of musical talent, however.

neutral What intelligent things is she saying with her songs????????? Do tell because it sounds like the run of the mill drivel to me.

I wouldn't even consider her music to be intelligent, let alone innovative... confused I too want to know that answer raffi.

Please re-read my post. I said SHE was intelligent, not that she was trying to say anything intelligent with her music. This is a pop record. Donna Summer wasn't trying to say anything intelligent with her songs, either, but no orgers had a problem with that.

Orgers bitch and moan because pop stars aren't playing instruments, writing their own songs and producing their own material like in the 80's - and now when we get someone who does these things, on a debut album no less, and she just ain't good enough by their standards. lol

You know hip hip horray that she plays an instrument and writes her own songs. What difference does it make if it sucks!!! and really is not all that different from other dance artist. Someone else said how is she doing anything different from Kylie Mignoe or Maddonna.

You don't like her music. That's really what it comes down to. But a lot of people do (clearly).

Clearly the proof of her "artistry" will come after she experiences backlash and less than favorable comments or slow sales, thats when you make the choice and proof yourself, on album 2 and 3 and 4, thats when artists are made. She clearly pressed the right buttons in terms of the pulse of the mainstream is, but, you dont always have your fingers on the pulse, everyone loses that honeymoon period and that is when you prove yourself.

Donna Summer, also had talent. Incredible talent, not mediocre to above average talent like Lady Gaga has shown thus far. When someone has talent and is a pop star fans are more likely to forgive. Dylan can't sing for shit but people can forgive him. Prince says cookie shit from time to time. Don't matter, He's multi-talented multi-instrumentalist witha gift for songwriting. Michael Jackson became an eccentric recluse & possibly worst. But he made Thriller.

Lady Gaga doesn't have an attribute like the aforementioned aside from manufacturing hype, and thus ignoring her negatives isn't warranted.

Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

Different strokes for different folks. For me, she's certainly the most exciting pop star to come around in a long time.

nod

She is nowhere near the level of those artists you just mentioned. She's has only been out for like what? 2/3 years? (not sure). I'll just sit back and watch how this plays out. lol

She is positive..

Musically....it took me a while to get into; however once I heard LoveGame I GOT IT basically. Then I learned she co wrote or self wrote most of her tunes.

I still dont like Poker Face or Bad Romance though ..kinda suck.

Ok, to answer the question of which pop stars play instruments but hide it, off the top of my head:

Britney - piano - played piano on both self penned songs Everytime and Someday, has never openly played it in performances.

Justin - guitar and piano - he's become more open about it lately, even playing piano in the Dead and Gone video

Nelly Furtado - guitar

Madonna - guitar

None of them are really known for their instrumental skills the way Gaga already is, she incorporated her playing into an MTV Awards performance, I don't recall the last time a pop star did that.

Then add to that others like Beyonce, Xtina and Rihanna who don't play a thing. Bey and Xtina at least have their voices but Gaga has a voice AND an instrument, both of which she puts forward just as much as her crazy image. She reminds me of MJ in that way, the talent AND the image are equal, it's just a matter of which one you choose to pay attention to most.

I think they mean in her interviews, like standing up for gay rights, feminism etc Hell, just taking her work as seriously as she does is refreshing.

Playing Instruments is the key word here .....none of the artist you have listed can really play an instrument that's why they hide it!

Britney pleaszzzzz.... lol

Madonna pleaszzzz..... come on...really ...

Look you don't have to love or like Ga Ga to see she can play

For about a year, I thought she was the freshest thing in music but now I think she's jumped the shark.

I don't like her last three songs at all. Typical "I'm in the club listening to monotonous beats" drivel that everyone else has been putting out for far too long.

She's a very talented girl! She has an amazing voice & plays piano very well. She writes all her own songs & she's damn good at creating catchy tunes. Sure most of her songs up until now have just been your run of the mill pop songs but I'd wait if I were you - she's gonna do some really interesting and experimental stuff in the future I can tell biggrin

She genuinly cares about her fans too. All these other sluts around who are all about the fame & money, she spends all her money on her show to please them s & you can see from interviews that she really loves her fans to death, you can't fake sincerity!

Plus, she's the 1st artist ever to have 4 number 1 singles off a debut album, love or hate her you can't deny that a talentless sell-out who's all about the image could never achieve something like that....

name some current artists that do? Very few of the ones on US radio that I know of. Just because they go on Ellen to perform doesn't mean a thing.

And even so, why does it make you people roll your eyes? Because it's overdone? I really don't fukin think so.

and why the fuck do some people on here think she puts her piano music up there with the rest of the stuff she does? ALL of her big songs are done using synths she didn't compose..if she was as forward as that as with anything else, it would be most of her songs plus her big ones like Alicia keys

she sometimes does piano medleys..she isn't Chopin or Tchaikovsky for christs sake..it's pretty slow mediocre stuff

not to mention she was brought up to play piano..which alot of privileged children also are brought up to do..she didn't just go out and say ''ooh im gonna go and learn piano because im so passionate about piano''

being called musically passionate because of being told by parents to do something is about as logical as saying someones passionate about language skills and historical literacy..just because you were brought up to speak english

YEA shes overrated. GAga has to wear bizzare clothes, look and act like a bimbo just to be heard. Her music cant speak for itself. Her music isnt that creative or groundbreaking, its the same pop trash Britney and the rest of the pop tarts do, but hers is with an electronic twist.

Many - like who? Please name one. I'd LOVE to hear Britney, Rihanna or any one of the label puppets out there sit down and speak intelligently about the wide variety of topics GaGa has addressed - with quite a bit of wit - in her interviews.
