WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF HIP HOP/RAP???

I don't know how much more of this sex laden/beat stealin'/nonsensical lyric spittin'/naked booty jigglin'/exercise in excess I can take. I want to support this form of music but sometimes...it's just damn hard to do so.

What will the future bring? Will this genre of music see the year 2025?

As far as famous rappers are concerned, I say Lupe and Diggy Simmons, but who knows. sigh

And what do you mean by "beat stealing?" Are you referring to when one rapper releases a new beat, then 5+ other ones do their own solo "remix" lyrics over the same beat 'cause it's so popular? lol Yeah, that can be annoying sometimes, lol.

nod yep. and when they take music from 70s/80s artists and overlap it with some base and/or synth so that you don't immediately recognize it as an old song.

I swear virtually every rap song out there sounds like something I've heard on the radio stations that play those oldies type songs. mad Can we get something brand new please?

It will be the same old shit....thuggish, slow to midtempo, and boring as hell. It has been that way since the early 1990s so it sure as hell ain't going to change now.

I would think that with all these rappers going to jail...it might force a change in the music and the attitude.

That only helps it to grow more. For a teenager, that bullshit has dominated the music scene for their entire lifetime so entertainers that look and act like criminals is all they know and they think that shit is cool.

I guess mainstream...that's the mess being fed to the masses.

That doesn't bother me since the people who originally created the sampled songs get paid. shrug It's hard creating new music to rap over when the greatest music (70s/80s) has already been created. lol

When Hip-Hop stops being a cash cow for record companies, and they abandon it for the next big thing... the underground will still be there, and you should see a lot more creative music, there is some creative Hip-Hop now, but it never sees the light of day. The artform has kind of gotten away from itself, but hopefully by 2025, it'll be back to a more 'pure' form.

I once predicted that hip-hop AND r&b would finally get a long overdue divorce. It still hasn't happen yet. disbelief

The real question is "what is the future of music exposure?"I can name 10 good hip-hop artists off the top of my head, easily. Its all about how you find out about your music. What music circles do you run in?
The days of waiting for the radio to give you good music are GONE. Until people come to realize this, there will always be threads like this. There will always be those going "who are YOU listening to?" with a raised eyebrow, wondering why you haven't changed how you acquire your music selections. Will all of the music message boards, internet radio stations, etc. There is no reason for people not to be able to find exactly what they are looking for. There may not be a club full of people dancing to it, but its out there. That goes for almost every genre of music.

^ But why isn't what's played on the internet stations and discussed on the music message boards more mainstream and in the clubs? How can music evolve for the better if stuff remains underground and exclusive to a few music circles/groups. That limited exposure and music sharing doesn't bode well for artists who are trying to make a living through their music either. We end up with the same ole hip hop and the same ole artists year after year.

Corporations have run the current music industry into the ground. Its too late. Its done. I'm sorry to be the one to say that.
There is an underground industry that is evolving and there are new methods artists are trying in order to make money making music.
Prince.org is not a good place for discussions about new R&B and/or hip-hop music. There are too many out-of-touch people who are content complaining about shit rather than finding new music and exploring it. There are lots of other boards but I'm not going into them here.

I forgot to add Tyga in my previous post.

People say a new "Young Money" rapper named Cory Gunz is about to become the "greatest," but I haven't heard any tracks by him that I like yet. Still checking him out though.

spoken word story telling over a predominate drum beat has been around since the dawn of time and is not going anywhere....I'm sure there will be a new name and style associated with it.

Lately it is not being played or bought anymore...at least as far as im concerned. Seems like they are turning r&b into rap in back into each other everyday..almost becoming it's own genere of music to be honest. I don't know if young people can distinguish between the two anymore. What was Akon? Rap? R&b? T-Pain? Cee-lo?

Eminem is coming back hardcore though I see and I am really happy he has been himself for this long and can still make platinum records these days and not ever seep to new lowers with selling himself short like most have done today. Same goes to Jay Z.
